My 2003 Z06 trunk opens fine. It pops up about an inch or so. I have a harder time closing the thing as I find myself having to slam it pretty hard. I do have a partition installed and I think the reduced trunk airspace works against the lid closing as the partition does move from time to time. When closing it, I try to avoid touching the paint and find myself pushing down on the 50th anniversary emblem instead.

Same here...I was continually popping out my partition due to the force/air resistance by slamming the trunk. What I do now is gently close it then push down forcefully on the emblem during that last inch to engage the lock. Problem solved...no more slamming and no more loosened partition. I did however install some velcro on the bottom, top, and sides of the partition to help keep it in place. Works great now.
Have to agree with the last 2 posts. My trunk hatch comes up about an inch and I have put the velcro on the partition. Also started to slam the lid to shut it, but now I just push on the emblem. Appears to work okay. For those that would like the lid to pop higher, I would recommend no more than a one or two inch height for opening. On my Bonneville when I pop the trunk, it looks like it's going to fly over the roof of the car. I'm satisfied with the way the "Z" opens.
My "Z" lid deosnt open that high at all. I have a hell of a time opening the darn thing. I used the lith grease, but to no avail. Solution, I do not use the car for when I plan on carrying anything. LOL The only thing I worry about transporting is my *** and a fine piece of female tail in the passneger seat.
Buy a can of white lithium grease in a spray can at the local parts store. Spray it on the latch and latch mechanism where the latch goes.
Work the trunk up and down on the latch about 5 times without closing it.
Close trunk. Hit button. Solved.
I tried WD-40. It lasted one day and then stopped opening again. A friend uses the following trick:
1) From inside the car, hit the trunk button.
2) Slam the drivers door shut and viola! The trunk pops up all the way.
Perhaps not the ultimate solution, especially if you are approaching the car and using the FOB, but it does prevent you from having to dig down to try to open the trunk and potentially scratch it.
FWIW & IMHO:
I had tried most of the home remedies listed on here and other Vette forums with varying degrees of success, but none either 100 successful or permanent. I asked Showcase Chevrolet to look at it when I had my '02 Z06 in for rocking seat back repair, oil change and routine servicing and they told me that the latch needed adjusting, and when I picked up my car 2 days later, it worked better than when the car was new. I could never come up with any indication or proof that the rubber seal sticks, and wd-40 makes a mess, of anything. Mine raises now, from both the button and the key fob, from both inside and outside the car. Raises about 1.5-2.0 inches, rain or shine, cold or hot. It's good to find a dealer/service department that has his act together. No greasy/oily stuff anywhere to be seen. I would never slam the back compartment door. Push firmly.
I have had the same problem, all you need to do is grease the latch and adjust the 2 black rubber peices on the trunk lid, turn them out a turn
tried that... had the dealer adjust it once, too... and it works for a few weeks...
sure would be nice if chevrolet, rather than home depot, would provide a permanent fix -- 'cuz i'm taking it back to them again...
My wife was at the store the other day and a guy had his arms full of bags and was fumbling with his Z's trunk. She went over and showed him the trick, she said he didn't know what to think, you wouldn't expect a woman to know about that. We had a laugh over it...
