Default Anyone else have problems getting into their trunk?

This darn thing never opens enough for me to pry it open with my fingers. I brought it to the dealer and he told me it was a normal C5 hardtop issue. I always have to open and close the door to get to trunk to open enough to manually open it. Those shocks suck. Any fixes?? thanks.

Mine too, but I noticed one thing different with my car than others. I only have one gas pressurize strut. I took it to the dealer and they said in 03 only one was installed. In 04 there are two. I'm going to try and get them to install the second strut.

Absent that a buddy had the same problem on his 00 vert and he fixed his problem with a $1.00 spring. Take a look.

His deck lid POPS open now.

Are you going to try and get GM to fit the bill. I kind of get annoyed when I have to improve on a year old $52,000 sports car and the dealers don't pay for anything. Maybe I'm just whining but... hey.

Same problem here, I read on our forum to adjust the trunk latch up. I haven't tried it yet because mine is ok during the hot months but when it cools off it 'll be time for the fix.

Ok, so why does mine pop open fine when I use the inside latch button, but not when I use the key fob? Anybody else notice that? It's got nothing to do with the door being opened or closed, either.

The easy fix for 95% of these is lithium grease.

Buy a can of white lithium grease in a spray can at the local parts store. Spray it on the latch and latch mechanism where the latch goes.

Work the trunk up and down on the latch about 5 times without closing it.

Close trunk. Hit button. Solved.

My 2004 does the same thing. I brought it in and had the gas strut and latch adjusted, etc. It still does the same thing. After talking to the tech on the phone, we think it is not the latch or the strut in this case. The most likely the rubber seal is sticking to the trunk lid. He suggested that I put some of the grease I put on the window rubber seal (I forget what it is) to see if the rubber is really sticky. I haven't had time to try this yet, but it seems like a good fix.

Try the lithium grease on the latch / mechanism. You will be surprised.

I don't think the gas shock is the problem for the sticking trunk. Spray some white lithium on the latch parts and use silicone grease for the weatherstrip. That should do the trick. I really think the rubber seal sticks to the trunk lid. Yes, putting the spring will "force" the lid open, but I don't think its necessary.

GM only installed 1x gas strut for a few months on the 2003s. Switching to 2x struts won't help the sticking lid, it only fixes one problem that was addressed in a TSB. Some of the '03 trunk lids weren't laying evenly when closed, and this can be fixed by adding the 2nd gas strut and new hinge. Should be a warranty item if you complain that your trunk lid isn't level when closed. The rumor is GM was saving weight on the Z06s.

My 04 popped fine for the first 2k miles...now at 4k it barely opens. I think the lithium on the latch and silicone on the stripping is the answer.

Mine did exactly the same thing. Worked great for a few thousand miles. My friend with an 02 showed me how his wouldn't pop, but I couldn't figure out why. Then it happened to me and I figured it out real quick.

The latch mechanism / latch friction cause it not to be able to raise up.

The lithium grease is the ticket for almost all of you. At a couple bucks for a can you have nothing to lose.
