I assume these are the fixed headlights. From a pure athestics standpoint .. to me they just dont look like they belong on the car, so I probably would spend that $1200+ on other mods first (just my own feelings). I do agree that there would be an aerodynamics improvement for nightime driving and they probably would do alot better at lighting up the road for you. I cant answer installation ease questions, but I would doubt it would be that difficult.
It boils down to your preference on the look, aero dynamics (probably a minor issue either way) and possibly having a little better lighting as to whether thats worth over $1200.
I do like the pop-ups and always have but do like having constant aerodynamics and do like the look on the C6 which is styled to work with fixed headlights much better of course.
Either case, you cant go wrong if it works for you.
Yes they are fixed they look just like the headlights on the C5R race cars, and yes more light on the road is my main goal and trying for a different look too. I put a C5R rear wing on the car and it looks awesome as the kids say. Others said i was NUTS for the wing till they saw it, and the word was that really looks great.
Come on guys need a little more input? Better lighting, installation easy? Should i just look into better light bulbs? Is the C5R Light kit good? Thank you, Jim
I have HID lights and they are great - also I have put Silvania Silver star bulds in the Silverado and plan on putting these bulds in my G/fs 04 vert. The silver star bulds are great too.
Dont know if the C5R lights are better but I would put my HIDs in if I got some.
Well for now i am going with lamp replacement (Silverstars), going to Mid America in Sept and i will ask about C5R kit when i get there. Thank you for all your help. Jim
The C5-R lights are mainly for aerodynamics. The stock C5 pop up lights are like air bridges and they couldn't use this on the C5-R Le Mans car since it races at night.
I believe that you used to be able to get the C5-R lights in HID, but they have quit selling them due to legal reasons.
As far as lighting goes, you'd probably be as well off with Euro headlight replacements and upgraded bulbs such as Silverstars or HID's. If you like the looks of the C5-R headlights and/or need the added nighttime aerodynamics of the fixed headlights, go for it.
There are a couple of different conversions, and the styling is somewhat different for each. One is from Breathless, and they may have a diy on their site. I think the install was in the 4-6 hour range, but I'm not sure. The completed installation is pretty attractive, but I'm not familiar with the specific bulbs used.
Thank you all very much for your input i did order the C5R light kit from WCC and for now will use Sliver Star lights and later look into HID's. Thanks again, Jim
