Has anyone noticed how cantankerous the console door hinge is? The first time I tried to open it (test drive with salesman) I thought it was broken. The sales guy just said - "pull harder." It opened, and it has continued to open, but frequently it is resistant enough that if my grip slips, it just slams shut again!
Is there an appropriate way to lube it, or does one just have to live with it (not that it is a life or death issue)?
Opening is a 2 step process. First, open cover 45 degrees. Then, grasp the cover and pull straight up. Once you do it it once, you will see how easily it works, Dave
I agree that the console lid sucks. Especially when I'm trying to put a CD in it. I've broken a couple of them with the lid slamming back down on them. Guess it wasn't made specifically for CD storage though. My old man has an 04 Z06 and the console opens like the hinge is not even there. Easy to open and close. I only store change and my tire pressure gauge in there now so I don't have to bother with it that often.

It's just the way the console lid is designed. I just lift it part way, then pull a little harder and it opens the rest of the way. If you have the parking brake on, it makes it a little harder.

Use a small amount of light oil in the hinge points, drop or two at most.
To open, don't pull up instead first pull toward yourself and then up. The hinge is sort of "double jointed", if you only pull up it will only open about 1/3 or 1/2 the way and then feel as though it is stuck.
Once you get the hang of it, it easily opens fully with the door at ninty degree angle. At least mine does.
As far as capacity, it sure could have been deeper, but I am suprised that it holds more than it looks like it could.

Yes I believe the parking brake gets in the way of lid. great design gm
