I have had it done. It took an afternoon for the dealer to complete and I did not have a realign.
Everything on my '04 was still torqued down correctly, so all they did was replace the nut and washer.
If your washer has already broken and they have to replace more I'd ask the tech about a realign (and the repair will take longer).
From what my tech told me the issue with wrong kind of steel is a corrosion concern (it can corrode and break). Since the '04s haven't been out for long I'm guessing most folks will just need the washer replacement.
Just got off the phone with my GM service advisor and he tells me that I have to take the car in to determine what parts are needed. He say's that in some cases it is just the nut and washer and in others it requires the bolt assembly also. In either case, it could take half day or the entire day if they have to order the bolt assembly. An alignment is not required so I am told.
i got mine last week. i am worried about them scratching my CCW's. the dealer i bought it from were real azz's over the problems with my stock wheels being scratched when i bought it, so what makes me think that its going to be any different this time.
i have to get that done, then i have a slight click in the a/c fan in the dash, and the trunk doesnt seem to want to open enough to get my fingers under when i release it.
i guess sooner or later i will have to let them touch it....but im just scared.

can't blame you one bit...most mechanics and also the little nonothings that drive your car from the service writer to where your Vette is worked on are jealous little bastaches and do not care one bit what happens to your vette...total little bastach pigs...and yes that is the way I feel
Me 2.. about half a day wait because of parts. The dealer gave me a new blazer to drive for the day.
thats another thing! when i called a few weeks ago to see about getting the click fixed in my a/c fan, i asked for a rental car, and the guy was like "we can give you a ride to work", so i tell him that i work in DC and thats like 35 miles away...so he says "can you get a ride?"
I JUST BOUGHT A CORVETTE FROM YOUR DEALER AZZHOLE! I SHOULDNT HAVE TO ASK FOR A RIDE!
They were nice enough to mention that I would get a courtesy car! What to you know, I also mentioned the nuts and rims re: scratching and the care of my car while it's there. He was going to personally make sure it was handled carefully. I will let everyone know how it goes.
...so now can you tell us which parts yours needed?...enquiring minds want to know...
The mechanic showed me the parts that were replaced. I am not an expert in these things, but it looked like two nuts with lock washers attached. The mechanic told me that the problem is that the washer was made of the wrong material.
I have an 04 coupe that I purchased new in January. Would someone provide some details on what types of vettes are subject to the recall? Is there a website I can visit about the recall? I haven't found anything on my own.
