By putting Ceramic Brake Pads on my 04 Vette will they harm the rotors,I was told that by putting hard brake pads on that they will wear out your rotors a lot faster, is this true?
I don't know how fast the rotors will wear out but I like not having all that black brake dust on my rims. I installed the Rayabestos Quiet Stops because I was having rear brake squeel upon applying the brakes. I have only had them on 2 months so I can't tell you about the wear factor.
I put Raybestos Ceramics on a year ago and couldn't be happier. NO dust, excellent braking, no pulsating or for that matter any abnormalities. It's been about 8K miles. IMHO
Ceramic pads will not hurt your rotors. You may notice it take slightly longer to stop, but not much. In a panic stop they will take longer, so becareful.
Rotors do ware out from repeated high intesity use, especially with racing pads. Ceramics are not racing pads and should not be uesd on the track or if you like to stop real hard or fast.
Slotted rotors may cut up ceramic pads quicker and the pads need tobe replaced sooner.
Overall ceramic pads cut down on brake dust and noise and decrease stopping distances, but only slightly.
I replaced the OEM pads on my Z due to all the dust and squealing. I installed GM's Dura Stop Ceramic pads at the same time I installed new Baer Enhanced slotted/drilled rotors. They are a perfect match and I love the more linear or progressive feel of the ceramic pads over the Z's more aggressive initial BITE.
Read the break in proceedure for new pads and rotors at BAER Brakes.
They recommend breaking in the new rotors with the old pads, if you can, and then installing the new pads.
Check Fred Beans for GM slotted and drilled rotors and ceramic pads!!!
I know they warp, but I've never heard of then failing any other way... except cracking ?
As far as I know, rotors only wear when the pads are worn to the rivets or backing plates. And of course the rotors go quickly when that happens. I'm assuming that none of us Vetters would let brakes go that far.

The ceramic pads will not harm your rotors. But, the do not stop as well as OE pads. Although you will notice a drastic reduction in the amount brake dust that is produced.

I should post pics of my pads after I got home from Hockenheim Thursday night. I new that track was hard on brakes, but I didn't think it was that bad. None of my pads had more the 1/16" left and one was totally gone. At least I made it home even if I did have to listen to the sound of metal grinding on 1 rotor for an hour. Yes, that rotor is history, Along with 2 other that have cracks in them.
