Default New Front screen question

I posted a question about surround material for front screens, something to wrap around the cut out wire mesh to velcro it into the openings. Well, I have tried a couple of different materials and cannot find anything that is satisfactory. I am not very technical so excuse my explanation. What about removing the housing that holds the fog lights and attaching the screen directly to the face of that and re-installing. Is there enough room on the front to attach the wire screen? Could I do the same to the smaller duct openings? If so, how do you go about removing the fog light housings, from the bottom or from the top? I tried different sizes of plastic tubing and none would wrap around the ends without flexing out and distorting. If I can't get a clean look I don't want to do it. Thanks for your help !!

Since the z06 screens sit barely inside the opening, putting them way back where the fog light surround is would look pretty weird, IMO. Plus taking the surround out is a real PITA, I've heard. The real screens are good looking without a lot of work. You can get them on ebay every so often for $79 or so. See the ones in my sig...

I went out and took a close look at the fog light area and my idea would not work at all. I just have this SS wire mesh and was trying to figure out a way to make it work. I guess that I will spring for the front screens and use the extra for the side vents and the rear.

I'm thinking of removing the fog light panels (from the bottom, according to the GM Service Manual), then cutting out a section of the panel, affixing screening to the back of the panel with something like JB Weld, then putting them back in. Not only would this prevent my car from trying to "look" like a Z06, but it would be better than the aftermarket fog light panels out there that have large unprotected holes and allow too much debris in.

Personally, I don't like the look of the Z06 screens sitting flush mounted with the front bumper. I think being able to see the recesses the fog lights sit in looks more refined. And, my idea would accomplish the same thing as the Z06 screens without having something blocking the fog lights (not so much in blocking the light beam shining through, but more of an aesthetics thing). Even when off, seeing the fog lights recessed in those openings provides much more character than the Z06 "cheese-grates". Like a cheesy grin, too, which turns me off.

With my idea, you can even use a hole saw to make 2 or 3 holes close to the same size as the fog lights themselves, and with the SS mesh, it could look like a row of 3 or 4 something-or-others, you know what I mean? You can even go further and use something to fashion scoops behind the panels right up to your filter if you wanted to, maybe using ABS elbows. So, where did you find the SS screen material?

Default SS Mesh

The fog light housing is not flush, the screen would be leaning out quite a bit at the top. Not sure if this could work. But let me know if you take this on. I got the SS mesh at McNichols in Phoenix. I think that they have several warehouses across the country.

I played around with DIY screens for a while. Like you I couldn't get a decent surround. I eventually bought the OEM items and I'm glad I did. Good fit and fixed tight with velcro.

Not sure I understand what you're saying. To clarify what I was saying, you can remove the stock panels, drill holes in them, then CUT the SS screens to fit over the new holes, and attach them to the panels behind the holes. Then just replace the panels. Should be simple enough.

So the screening would end up deep in the back of the recess, NOT flush upfront in the recess at the same plane as the bumber, like Zo6 screens are.

MrLeadFoot, Ahh, I now understand the concept and that would work as well as be functional. Honestly, I am going more for the look although I will be installing a Halltech Stinger intake in a few days and probably should be looking more for air than the look.
