1. Carefully, take a hack saw and cut 6" straight down the back of your C5 to make it the same size as the C6. Then stick this plastic piece on the top in the middle of the recently chopped off rear end for your third brake light and your C6 tail look-a-like is complete. This is how GM did it.
the second one would be: take headlamp assemblies from either Viper, Mazda, Eagle, Toyota, Nissan, Dodge, Ford ... any will do.
There are a number of C6ers & C6 wannabees bashing the 'old looking' C5. Let's not stoop to their level. The C6 is the next generation, with more HP & TQ, plus better handling. Whether you like the styling or not, we should happy GM stepped up to the plate.
Regarding the original post, personally, I love the style of the C5 and do not understand why anyone would bastardize it's look.
I am NOT a C6 wannabe. I personally don't like the way it looks. GM lost the uniqueness of the car's styling when they tried to make it more 'euro' apealing. The front looks like a Miata, the rear is too short and tubby, they don't have more hp and power than MY C5, the interior looks like a Mercedes or something, and the taller wheels give it a nice 4x4 look. I think GM dropped the ball on this one and it is my opinion of course, but I probably would have felt the same when the C3 was released if I was old enough for it to matter to me. Not flaming anyone here just throwing my $.02 in.
Changint the aesthetics of the car is never going to make it a C6, anyone who thinks it is a bit short-sighted...now if you just like the looks of some of the aesthetic features, that's a whole other story...
Personally, I love the C6, I had a deposit on a pre-oreder until the price tag cam in at $53,000...for less than half of that, I have a beautiful C5 that I can have fun modding! But in a few years, I'm sure, I'll own both.
Love that 427!! Would love to go that route but just couldn't sell my wife on that one!!
Can't believe I never thought of that before! Anyone know what the market is like for one just a few years old, doesn't smoke but has a bit of a whine when you really step on it... just curious of course
My biggest complaint about the C6 is that it really isn't a C6. A new generation shouldn't be just a re-skin of the current car. If you want to call this a C6, then the 1974 model should've been a new generation too. After all, the front and rear were different from the previous years.
A new generation should be something totally new and as nice as the C6 is, it's only a slightly changed C5. Chop a foot off the car, take out the popups, juice the engine a little and you've got a C6. I'm not bad-mouthing the car. I'd like to have a C6 vert, but they AREN'T a new generation of Corvettes.
