I'm not sure exactly what is too high on my "oil pressure" gauge. All of a sudden my oil pressure is much higher than normal. At start up it's reading 70 - 75 psi, once it's warmed up it still reads 60 - 65 psi cruising down the road. I've never seen it that high before, anybody else experienced this one. All other readings on the gauges are normal, not sure whats happening??
Did you just have your oil changed? If so, it might be that 10W-40 or similar was used.
Just a thought.
I did just have the oil changed, but it was with Mobil 1 5W-30 as usual. Didn't know if possibly there is an oil pressure regulator that is going belly up? It's a 97 coupe with 89,000 miles on her now, and a daily driver. I'm always leary of asking the service department guys, they always like selling you something you may or may not need. Thanks!

A friend had the exact same problem with his 98 at around 70k miles. It was the oil pressure sender unit somethingoranother. I'm not a regular on this board but from what I understand its a fairly common problem.

A good way to test the sensor is to turn the key on but do not start the car. If the oil pressure is pegged, youv'e got a bad sensor.

It gets weirder all the time. I got in and turned the key on but did not start the car. The gauge and the DIC both tell me that the oil pressure is 28 PSI, seems kind of odd when the motor isn't even running.
The sending unit was replaced last October when it went bad and was pegged all the time. About 7000 mi. ago, you would think they would last a little longer than that!

Sounds to me like it is going bad. Obviously it should be reading 0 with the engine off. If it is reading 28, then it is reading 28 over where it should be. At start-up, oil pressure should be in the low 40s. Add 28 to 42 and you get 70, which is right where you are.
a buddy of mine has a 99 with 103k miles on it and i asked him the other day what his oil press was and it was pegged and the dic said 129. i think thats a problem hahaha. seems maybe the sensor is just not "zeroing" like it should? is there a way to have someone check the operation of it and reset it to work and read 0 with no pressure that way the other readings would be ok?? if it were mine, id probally just live with it as being 28psi off for a while until it started acting real goofy then see about fixing it...just my opinion though.

Hey, thanks for all the good feedback guys! Looks like it's time for another new sensor. Too bad you have to take the Intake Manifold off to get at it. I'd better check into what kind of warranty is involved here.
Anyway thanks again, this is the coolest Corvette website in the good old USA!!!!!!!!!!!!
