when racing my '03 Z06 it is pretty uncomfortable because my helmet hits my headliner. is there anything that can be done about this? i dont remember having this problem with my '03 coupe.

The headliner seems a bit different. It seems to have a ridge that sticks out a bit farther on the Z06 models. That is one of the drawbacks of the car. I have tilted teh back and leaned it a bit farther back and I have decided it was ok. I think there is a post of swaping to a 01' headliner for more clearance.
GM changed the headliner in 2003. You can order the headliner for the '02 and earlier Z06 that doesn't include the extra thick ridge that is taking away your headroom. I think the headliner only costs around $100.
I have an 04 Z06 and I changed out the headliner with an 02 version.
The 03+ have a ridge in the back with some plastic webbing. It took me about an hour to do it myself. Not hard at all... The 02 part was about $75 + $20 handling charge

Same here... I have an '03 and put in an '02 Headliner. Takes about 30 minutes and is very easy. I'm 6'3" so it was WELL worth the $95!!

Also remove the steel coil springs under the foam pad in seat bottom.
Nothing more embarrasing than getting in your car, stuffing your helmet in, putting on the seat belt, and then NOT being able to reach the door to close it
I did that often in my 96 with a five point seat belt. Only SoloII stuff so no major laughter. I'd just flag someone down and ask them to close my door. It just took way to much time to saddle up in that car. I have not been in my Z with the helmet on, I had been hoping it was better
GM didnt provide a large enough Gurney Bubble to accomodate for racing on the production models with headliners. Either option is to lower the seat or raise the headliner by removing it or replacing it with a thinner counter part. But that will only give you a minor space improvement. I suggest adjusting the seat by replacement of a racing seat.
