Hahaha.. I think its funny you guys call em "LEO's"... it takes as much effort to write that as it does cop, and everyone knows what a cop is.. its not offensive to cops to call them that.. thats what they are...
and that defines everyone, just as LEO... a sheriff, state trooper, highway patrol, Police officer... all = cops... like the show... simple simon.. its not like a derogatory word.. like pig, fuzz, popo, thaman,
I'm sure he will be posting at a vw board, how he beat a vette in a race and that some redneck jealous cop in his POS crown vic decided to ticket him for no reason.

As you point out, the "effort" is the same to type either word. I also think that in this day and age and certainly on this board "everyone" knows what an "leo" is so I guess I'm missing the point of your post.
In any case, I've no problem with the word "cop" and I doubt any police officer does and, as you stated, there's certainly nothing derogatory about it. Heck, there's even a TV show called COPS.
"LEO" is just another addition to the keyboard vocabulary/Internet jargon of today that has caught on and become popular, but I'm not sure it's used anywhere else but on the 'net.

Love the justice.
I get tailgated sometimes and I make every effort to move to the side, they OBVIOUSLY have no idea what they dealing with when they tailgate a Corvette. Its always the ricers and junker cars that enjoy getting close to the back of me. They appear to be in a much bigger hurry than me, so have at it.
My wife asked once why I move over and let these cars pass, and I said "well dear when you KNOW you can smoke'm what fun is wasting gas on a 17 yr old in a Honda Accord when you can embarrass a Ferrari driver for a much bigger effect."
While on the road we all see the lame things some drivers do which in turn hurts us all by driving up the cost of insurance. Many times after seeing some dirt sack taking way too many chances, like passing on the right (shoulder) or passing on the crest of a hill or curve and many other dumb acts, I've said "where's a cop when you need one".
Instant justice; well maybe this qualifies. Over the past holiday weekend I take the top off, and go out for a nice cruise. Two young men in a mitsubishi pull along side me at a stop light, where the driver grins and races his engine and proceeds to power-brake his car, and verbally challenge me. I told him to grow up at which time the light changes and he cuts over in front of me and slams his brakes on and then rips off and turns into a convenience store just down the street. Enough is enough. I follwed him in and in addition to the traffic violation both were charged with minor in possession, open container, possession of a controlled substance. I hate doing that stuff while "off-duty" but these guys were clearly a danger to those of us just out to enjoy the weekend.
If I am typing too fast for you ...please let me know......
LEO= LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER................and the Crown Vic has been the only Ford I liked.....
Now someone please correct me......on the rear end of my car it Reads CORVETTE>.......how the heck does this translate to TAILGATE me?????
Its been happening everyday......
It translates to TAILGATE because to say he was 'CORVETTEING' me wouldn't make any sense. What I want to know is how the heck did he know the Cop's name was Leo?
COP is short for copper. Back in the day badges used to be made out of copper. If you watch old gangster movies they refer to the law as "coppers." It eventually just got shortened to COP. Gotta love the History Channel

I always thought it was because they had copper buttons on their uniforms.
