Need help finding shop
I need to find a shop to change out my alternator. I'm looking at a place local to Los Angeles (Yes, I will also post this is the Pacific Region). I have been down the road to the stealership (watch for my rant thread), and found that warranty means "We need money up front to cover repairs if they are not covered by warranty and we we can figure out a reason to say that your repair IS NOT covered under warranty. OMG! WTF happened to warranty meaning warranty?! Okay...sorry...I'll continue in my rant thread. Someone please tell where/who can help me without trying to bend my over? I have an '03 A4 with 25K miles on it. I am willing to pay for the alternator, at this point, I don't care about warranty. Thanks all!

I have never heard of that happening with the factory warranty. Have you tried a different dealership?
If you are ready to pay for the alternator yourself, the replacement is very simple. All you have to do is disconnect the battery, remove the belt from the alternator pulley, unplug 2 wires from the alternator, remove two bolts, put the new alternator on, reconnect everything and you are done. When you start it up for the first time, let it idle for 5 minutes with the a/c off, then 5 minutes with a/c on to let the idle re-learn itself.
