I followed the directions as stated in Visor Removal without success. I was thinking the 2004 vert might be different.I stripped out the slot and was reluctant to go any further.
I just removed my passenger side visor, and found that the driver's and passenger's sides rotate in opposite directions. Maybe that's your problem. You basically have to rotate the visors toward the doors.
I did the rotation with the screwdriver inserted toward the door as stated. The only result was the screwdriver stripping out the slot in the plastic ring. I tried numerous times with the same result. Had to give up in frustration. This is why I think the 04 vette might need a different technique.
I too can't seem to get the visor to come out. It's almost like the inner bezel is stuck. All I seem to do is strip out the slot in the inner bezel. I used a fair amount of force to move the visor toward the door but I'm stumped. What's interesting it that in the tech tip pic the visor shaft is steel and mine are plastic, I wonder if this makes any difference. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanx, Jeff
I removed the driver side visor on my 2004 a few months ago to install a new one with Homelink. I followed the directions on several posts and got the visor off but broke the plastic retainer on the visor. I thought that I must have done something wrong, maybe applied too much force. The replacement visor had the part that I broke. Maybe a 2004 is different?
I got it off as well but alas, I broke the inner bezel as well. I hope that I can get the bezel seperately, but it looks like I'll have to order a whole new visor unless I can dig up the part I'm looking for. Crappy design but I probably works well on the line. Jeff
Geez, this is no good news! I wrote the removal tip 3 years ago, but it was only from experience on my 2001 model.
Lets stay on top of this and if a new technique for the newer cars is needed, lets put a date cut-off on the "old" tips and write a new one for the new style visors.

I think we have the right procedure since I had both your tech tip and the instructions from the service manual. I think that there may be instances where the parts were not properly aligned when installed which allows the visor to work properly but then you can not remove it without destroying the inner bezel. I say this due to the way the top of the inner bezel is shaped it can only come out one way and if the two are assembled in the wrong phasing it will not disassemble. I think this is a crappy design but I'm sure it works well on the line as it is all snap together. The really tough part is that to get the inner bezel may require the purchase of a new visor since my parts list doesn't show it seperately. Jeff
New info!!! After a long session with the dealers parts computer we did find the inner bezel part number! I ordered a couple and if they are the correct ones I'll post the info here. I also expect to see if I can figure out why the darn thing would come apart like it was supposed to.
I am relieved to see others having this same problem. I was begining to think I was an incompetent mechanical klutz and lucky to just zip up his own zipper without damaging something.
Mine came out with no trouble. Firm upward pressure and rotated it a little pass the door. I did buy a new inner bezel but did not use it. I'll save it for next time.

John-
Upward pressure on the visor or the screwdriver?? The problem that I and a few other have had is the dang thing won't rotate, I bent a small screwdriver and then a slightly larger one stripped out the slot in the bezel. Oh well, I'll get it figured out. Jeff
Well unfortunately my dealer failed me, the bezels we ordered were the outer ones, aggghhh. I was gonna use one, but the parts guy goofed and ordered both for the passenger side, but the good news is they are letting me return them even tho they were a special order. So the moral of the story appears to be that if you wreck the inner bezel either leave the visor in place or prepare to buy a new visor somewhere. What a lousy desgin in a 45,000 dollar car. Jeff
does it look better to take the visors out? i'm debating between looks vs. functional issues...
Hey Bananas, never know whether you're serious or pulling our leg. But, for practical reasons, you'll want them if you have to drive into the sun and they help deflect the air with the top down.
If you figure this one out send me a personal on your technique. I have spent more time on trying to remove the driver side visor on my 04 C5 vert (without success) than it took me to install my Borla Stinger exhaust + 2 wax jobs. Every time I get in my car I look at that visor and feel totally disgusted and defeated by the plastic bezel from (hell).
