Default Lift Pads?

Need info on lift pads, and why I need them. I have about 1200 miles on my Z and want to bring somewhere to get an oil change, but I'm worried about how they lift it without the pads or rail savers I'm hearing about. This is my first C5 and I need to catch up on the must have mods. Can I get my oil Change without pads? Thanks in advance. Jim

Well from what i can sell and tell most places don't know how to lift our cars and will damage your car. You can either cough out $80 to get the jack pucks or you can build one yourself and i am in the process of doing it.

http://www.zo6vette.com/forums/showt...=jacking+pucks

go to that link...

Thanks for the info, Glad I waited for oil X. I'm on my way to Dick's sporting goods and Ace Hardware.

You are welcome... I am even thinking of a way to do the partition on my z06. I really don't want to spend $250 for just that thing.

i will prolly document it. I will start off with cardboard cutting first to get the exact measurements and then go to home depot to get a plywood ... then i will carpet it....velcro and what not.

I don't think it will be REALLY hard to do.

My chevy dealer has yet to use them, said they are a waste. They lift the vette on the frame with no trouble.

If your dealer is lifting your C5 with out pucks or pads he is taking a chance on cracking your rockers. There is only about a 3-1/4x3-1/4 area in the rear for the lift pad to catch the frame, in the front you have more of the frame to catch. When the lift pad which is usually about 7X5 is used without a puck or jack pad, all the weight is on the rocker panel and the rocker panel is not flat against the frame. Believe me the rocker can crack or split.

I bought these from http://bavauto.com and they snap into place. You could leave them on the car but I don't.

Part number is 51 71 1 960 752. Price is $6.95/ea plus shipping. Maybe a bit pricey but it was worth it to me versus making them.

They look pretty good. Pop them on before you bring in for service then you know they will be used. versus handing pads to the service rep and hope they use them, which in all probability they won't. Jim

I picked up a set of the BMW pads today, local dealer, cost was $31.51 with the tax. I put them on. They snap in nice like they were made for the vette. I'm leaving them on all the time. Thanks for the tip.
