Hey guy's, Just installed my new 34/78 optima battery this afternoon and I'm a little concerned about the lack of contact between the plastic hold down and the bottom edge of the optima battery, sure doesn't look like much. The way this car gets tossed around on the auto-cross track I'm not real confident with the hold down. Have any of you guys been reshaping the plastic hold down so it get more of a bit on the optima battery?
I put a yellow top in my Z last week .... I had the same question. The little plastic hold down doesn't seem to sit much on the new battery base .... I thought about grinding it a bit to make it fit better but decided to let it alone for now.

Did you use the hold down that came with the optima batt....or the stock gm hold down?? there is a difference! i used the optima hold down...fits much better w/ optima batt.
My optima battery didn't come with it's own hold down, didn't know that they had their own, I will look into that to day, thanks for the info.
RoHo
There should be a little plastic bag taped to the otima batt, with 2 hold downs...one for gm application & 1 for ford/ mercury, along with an instruction sheet. Sometimes people rip them off batt in the store. I've seen them on shelves at Pep Boys with & without. If i were you, i'd go back to the place where you bought it & ask for the hold downs! Let me know what happens.
Hey Guy's - went to the battery shop I bought my optima from and they didn't know anything about any hold downs that came with the optima, went to two different Pep Boys in San Diego and all they could offer was a red universal hold down that was no better then the Corvette hold down. I guess it's time to break our the small grinder and 1/2 round file and do a little reshaping on the stock bracket, just don't trust it the way that it is.

I bought a yellow top last week and it didn't come with instructions or hold downs. :confused
If anyone finds a way to obtain these please post here as I would like to acquire one if possible.
Purchased my Optima from Sears and it came with the plastic base, it must be used to secure the battery. I didn't use it at first and tried with and without, finally I got it seated properly. It took me the dummy over an hour to install it.

It not a hold down bracket, its a plastic base the battery sits on!!
