I'd keep the Firebird. I went from an auto Trans-Am to a manual Vette and do miss the Trans-Am ocassionally. It's nice to drive an auto now and then when you're feeling lazy, plus the extra seats are useful now and then. Keep the Firebird as a beater and ocassional use when you don't want to worry about leaving the Vette in a car park, etc.
A new coupe for $33k OTD??? That sounds really low to me, even if you have no sales tax in your state that number just doesn't seem possible. Share your negotiating secrets, PLEASE????
I'd go for keeping the Firebird. It's nice to have a second car especially if your only car is as sensitive a Vet. Just so I don't get flamed -- what I mean is I've driven my Vet in the snow and it's not meant for that, there's been times when I've gotten door dings and just don't feel like subjecting my baby to any more of that for a while, or I need to get something from Home Depot/Lowes, or I do need a 3rd or 4th seat, or you have to put it in the shop for a column lock, fuel gauge, 6 spd differential seal replacement, etc..
I can buy a 2001 Black convertible with 30k for $30k and keep my 1998 Firebird Formula (my first true love), or I can trade in the Formula and get a new 2004 coupe for $33k out of the door. I'm torn...
I had the a similar decision to make 6 months ago and made the wrong one. I traded in my baby, a mint 2000 Z-28, for my 2004. While getting the 2004 wasn't the problem, I now really miss the Camaro, I bought it with 6 miles on it, and it would have made agreat 2nd car. Find the 3 K and try to get both. Good luck
If you keep the Bird and use it for a bad weather and grocery getting beater, then the 2001 will look better (newer) in a couple of years than the 2004 would have!

My goodness! What he wrote was that he would trade his Formula in on the 2004 and owe $33K, or keep the Bird and owe $30K on the 2001.

I'm going to go against the crowd, keep your first love.
My first was a 90 foxbody ... i still love her to this day, compariable to my vette. .. if the foxbody were better on gas, and a little faster, it would be a real hard decision on which car to take in the morning.
once that thing gets her new engine ... boy is it going to get tough.
