@#$^** Orange Peel

The wife comes out to bring me a glass of tea and ask's if I am getting it ready for a car show or what, And I respond "with the POS paint job on this car It's not worthy to show"
She says but it's brand new.
GRRRR
Why can't they put a decent paint job on Vette's?
Makes me want to take it to the body shop and spend 10K on a decent paint job.

When I first started noticing OP on my other car years ago, I thought of a new/better paintjob. Turned out the OP actually hides flaws in the material (on metal bodies more than the SCM of the Vette, I'm sure.) I looked at MBZ, and even at 100K, those car's have it too. It's just the price of mass production, the clear coat doesn't have the time to "flow" smooth, baking is what causes OP. Sorry. I know it sucks. Just so you feel better, just think, some cars have worse OP than others. Maybe you got one of the better ones?

The only way to avoid it is to paint and wet-sand the finish between coats. Very labor intensive and expensive.

I've seen it on a number of high-end cars BMW, MB, etc.

Trouble is there is no consistency between the cars, which they can do something about. But, hey, this is the age of "Bend Over and Spread Em" "We got your money, see ya." We consumers have acquiesced and accepted crappy products and service across the board. If we demanded excellence and held companies responsible, it might not be this way. To me it is evident in everything. Any one build a house lately and see what they pass off as upscale custom? It's only gonna get worse as less employees have to perform higher production quotas.

I bought my car for a lot of other reasons and I enjoy it despite the numerous obsessive complaints that I read here about . . .well everything (brakes, shifters, exhaust, wheels, tires, upholstery, paint, batteries, recalls, cup holder) well read for awhile and you can see that there is hardling anything that does not get a complaint. But . . .

Alright...We've gone 19 posts and no one yet has mentioned the
omni-present quote of "Geez...This is Chevy's flagship car and at
$50,000
you'd think they could give a better(fill in the blank here)."
Ya' know, $50K ain't that much anymore for cars.
OP has been around a very long time. I was just watching an episode of
American Hot Rod and these guys do custom paint all the time. They
mentioned that they need to paint, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand to
eliminate OP. They have 6 guys hand sanding the carcass for days
to get a perfect paint job.
GM has a freaking robot doing it in a few minutes. Do you want to pay
the cost of days of labor? Not me. I'm surprised it comes out
as good as it does.
Furthermore, did you not see the car before you bought it? Did you
buy it at night in the dark?
If you're like most of us, you bought the car for the car itself and not
for the paint quallty, the semi-leather interior or the inconsistent panel
fit, or the sound system or the RF tires.
I couldn't give a rat's a$$ about those things. I bought the car for the
car itself.
If you bought the car to put in a show right from the factory, you
are dillusional. If you're serious about showing a car in a perfect
state, then you would have had the car delivered to a paint
shop that specializes in show car quality finishes.
If you really, really want to have it repainted, GM warrantees the paint
for 1 year. Complain and they'll do it for you. Wait til it comes back
and see what it looks like.
If you said you're willing to spend $10K for a decent paint job, then
go do it. Imagine if Chevy raised the price $10K just for paint.
I don't think you'd like that either.
Go drive the car and get over it. In three months, you'll have
rock chips and crap from the road all over the car anyway.
Keep it clean and drive it.
