George. I have looked closely at $100K+ cars only to find OP as bad or worse as on my C5. Then again, I've seen better paint jobs on Corollas. The EPA has a lot to say about solvent content in painst - the more, the better the finish - but US EPA rules limit that. Countries that have more relaxed standards tend to have less OP in the paint but it's still there. Rumors of water-based automotive paints that solved that problem have yet to surface (no pun intended).
One day I may need to have mine repainted - that's when I'll spring for the high-doller respray. In the meantime, I just Zaino the crap out of mine and enjoy the shine.
Hey Pug. My black vert was heavy OP and I don't personally like it.The clearcoat was heavy enough to enable me to cut and buff it very carefully I might add, to a mirror flat glass like finish. You need a rotary buffer and a gallon of Diamond cutting cream + plenty of care and patience. Finish off with lighter creams and PM me if you want all the info on what I used. I'm really pleased with the results but don't let water dry on the surface. The water spots are very damaging to the finish and buffing of course is going to remove a lot of the clearcoat protection. You need to treat the finish with EXTRA care once buffed.
I didn't even give a crap about orange peel until I kept reading about it on this forum. Besides, every car I see anymore has it. Big deal.
think about this . . . fast forward 25 years and my 04 CE is up for auction somewhere . . . a close inspection shows NO OP. The price would go down because it would not be considered stock or original
well at that time I will be 91 and I hope to be buying a c10 with our without OP
I agree. I have a 90 Lexus LS400 and my wife has a 93. Bear in mind 1990 was the first year not only of the LS400 model, but the first year of the entire NAMEPLATE. There is no OP on those cars. Both those cars look like they are new. Ppl drop their jaw when I tell them how old they are.
Having said that, I'm flying next week to pick up and drive home a 99 Navy blue, fully optioned coupe. I missed my 86 vette too much. I bought that car new in 86 and sold it 2 yrs later when I got married and had to do the house thing.

Most car manufacturers have orange peel. Also rememeber that every country has a different set of enviromental protection laws. so if you import is made in the US it will probably have the exact same orange peel compared to a car that is built in Japan.
