Default Service, ABS, traction control, active handling

Yesterday I got in the car to go to the store. Got "Service ABS", "Service traction control", "service active handling" messages on the message center. Stopped at the store, got in to go home, same message. Never had this before.

This morning I start the car, no messages. Drove around all day, no problem. Went to go out to dinner, got same message on the way, and coming back. Started the car to put it in the drive way, no messages.

When I get the messages, the ABS light and the traction control symbol are lit on the dash. I tried to turn traction control off with the button and nothing happens while I am getting the messages. ( Have not tried that when there is no message).

The car is under warrenty, so I am guessing it has posted some codes and the dealer will have to fix it. I am 100 miles from home, and I am going to drive it home like this.

Anyone have this come up? My car only has 24,000 miles on it.

Jay

I get the same messages everytime it rains hard. Another overengineering problem with GM.

It's probably a flakey sensor. Check the codes yourself or post them here to see if you can pinpoint it.

Another option would be to clear out all of the codes (so there aren't any in the DIC), then if (when) it happens again IMMEDIATELY check the DIC and write down all of the codes including the H or C after the numbers. That should give you a real good idea of where the problem is.

Good luck

I had the EXACT same problem. Intermittent, 34k on the car. I found the "secret" button pressing combo process, and looked up the codes, which showed "wheel speed variation" error, and another one (I can't remember which), at the right front wheel. Praying that it was just an anomaly, I cleared the codes from memory, thinking that if there really was a problem, they'd come back. What did I have to lose, right? Well, I haven't seen them again for over a month now.

Oh yeah, and a few days after I cleared the codes, I happened to be under the car lubing the swaybar bushings. While under there I looked to see where the wiring for the wheel sensor was, and it was right there on the inside of the wheel. Since it was right there, I decided to unlpug the wiring connector from the wheel, then plug it back in. Don't know if that helped, but I figured maybe I'd get lucky and the connection might not have had a good contact. In either case, like I said, it's now been over a month and I haven't seen them since.
