Just installed a Hurst shifter last week, and I can now hear every #*&@% sound from the tunnel. The factory shifter has a rubber gasket that mutes these sounds, but the Hurst doesn't. Does anyone have a solution to this? It's so freaking annoying, I'm considering an uninstall. - AD

The instructions state you reuse the stock rubber gasket/boot. Just turn it over if I remember.

Exactly. And any noise that sounds like the **** is rattling or buzzing is normal with some *****. It's not the shifter but the **** itself. I tried re-using the OEM ****, then an $80 momo and I finally found one that mates to the Hurst and ignores the harmonics the super stiff Hurst allows to flow to to the tip of the shifter. It's one of the ***** from MGW, fit the hand perfectly, looks great and only cost $45, take a look:
I'm not talking about **** vibration. This sound is coming up from the tunnel through the hole in the shifter, not around the ****. If I put the base of my hand firmly around the base of the shift boot, pressing down, my hand mutes all of this sound. The problem is, I need my hand on the shift ****, not the base to deaden sound!! Help please! - AD

I know what you meant, that's why I included the previous reply about re-using the OEM rubber insulator, just turned upside down. I threw in the info about the **** making noise as a bonus since both issues can make your driving experience less than optimal.
Did you re-use the OEM rubber insulator? If not, you need to install it. The drive train noise is no more or less with a Hurst than the factory shifter of the insulator is installed.
I bought a 2½" rubber PCV cap, cut a hole slightly smaller than the base
of the shifter, slide it down over the shifter and the upside-down inverted
insulator. Works greats. Others guys have successfully used a cut-in-half
tennis ball as well!
Note that the isolator is still used although it must be inverted to fit over the Hurst shifter base.
I followed Patches instructions to the letter when I did mine, and all worked out well. I don't notice the noise at all (although I do have B&B Bullets, so that is mainly what I hear anyway )

An aftermarket shift **** and half a tennis ball did the trick for me.
