I replaced the OEM pads on my 03 Z 3 months ago and love them. If your interested in buying GM ceramic pads I'd suggest buying from some of our vendors, like Fichtner or Fred Beans Chevrolet. Both are Chevrolet dealers that go the extra mile to take care of forum member needs. This is from Fichtner's Parts Bob news letter.

C5 GM Durastop Ceramic Brake PadsThey are $140.12 for a set of fronts and rears.

C5 Corvette ACDelco Durastop Ceramic Wave II Brake Pads
Noise Suppression: 100% shimmed, 100% slotted, 100% chamfered. AC Delco Durastop provides ultra-quiet braking due to the absence of iron and steel fibers in the friction formulation.Durability: Ceramic friction lasts longer than other non-ceramic friction.Low Dusting: AC Delco Durastop Ceramic Friction was specially developed to reduce the ANNOYING dust that is typically found in ordinary friction formulations.

Warranty: AC Delco Durastop Ceramic Friction will provide a limited lifetime warranty. These are available for many different GM models in addition to Corvettes!!

I got the AC durastop pads at around $35 dollars a set a total of $85 bucks for all four from GMPartsdirect.com. Do not pay the retail for these ceramic pads. I also got the drilled and slotted AC Delco rotors for $47 each from the same place. Check them out. You will need the part numbers. Send me a PM, and I can give them to you.

The pads on your Z-16 are not cheap, they are different than the ceramic.

The cermaic produce significantly less dust, but performance is not as good as the performance pads that came with your Z16.

Its your choice, looks or an extra margin of safety.

I have been running cermaic and changed back to performance pads after my last track event and will put-up with the dust.

Have you ever needed to stomp on your brakes? If you had, you would quickly realize those pads are not cheap. Read any of the comparative braking tests done on the Z06? Expect the forum members who regularly track their cars to chime in.

I was told "akebono" pads are the best you can buy. Corse the guy that told me this was trying to sell me some. I did some research though. they are made better than OE.

Don't worry about replacing the rears. They don't dust much at all.

Chief,

Well after talking to people who do DE's they all use regular rotors and change often as they had problems with cracking around the drilled holes. My set-up was for the street. I like the look of the drilled and slotted rotors, and I love the little to no dusting now for the front wheels. I used to wash them daily now weekly. I have around 500 miles on these now and it feels better as I put miles on them. Not sure how long it takes to bed them in, but it feels pretty good now.

My recommendation is not to get drilled rotors as they become more susceptible to cracking. Slotted or dimpled are fine. Also replace as often as required never have them machined, its not worth it.

If your car is for show then I guess drilled look better but ......the car was made to be run on the track.

When comparing prices with GMPD please always compare shipped prices.

We have the best price shipped on the pads and rotors.

The pads are 101.99 shipped and the rotors are 212.99 shipped!

Give us a call.

Sorry, but he was quoting a shipped price. I picked up an extra set of pads a few months ago and then posted the deal on Z06vette.com.

GMPartsdirect was selling them for $34.50 for either front or rear sets and the total with shipping was just under $85 for front and rear sets. That's $69 for a full set of pads front and rear plus about $13-$15 in shipping.

Edit: Here's the thread that I started on the other forum in July.

http://www.z06vette.com/forums/showt...light=durastop

The fronts are now $49.88 and the rears are still $34.50. Add between $13-$15 in shipping and that comes out to about $100 shipped.

I got the pads for $85 shipped, and the rotors for around the same price. So I would call it cheaper with GMpartsdirect.com. JMHO.

I just went to the web sight and looked at the prices for both front and rear. It's what your quoted. How much did they charge you for shipping? Any special insight to changing these pads? Is it the same as all front disks?

Thanks for your help

Mine came to $85 with shipping for the fronts, and close to the same for the rears. The procedure is pretty much the same except that the ceramics have a shim or sticker like piece in the box it is supposed to be applied to the piston side of the caliper, and is for some kind of noise or maybe heat resistance. I did not use it and my car is very quiet. Also use the new metal spring clips provided as well.

Default Road Atlanta C-5R

Is any forum members planning on attend the Petit Leman this coming weekend? I heard that they will have a corvette corrall for vette owners to park their cars in support of the C-5R vette's. I'll be there with my Z16, hope to see alot of fellow vette owners and C5R followers.

The other alternative for reduced brake dust is slotted rotors. I personally would opt for them and keep the stock brake pads (just personal preference). As in horse shoes .. every inch may count some day when least expected. There is a performance difference on stopping power with the ceramics best I can tell from recent threads and at least one response in this thread.

I have yet to any brake mods .. 04 Z with 1500 miles so far. I will probably do the slotted rotors when I need to replace brakes.
