Well on my quest for making my own partion, here goes some pics...once i am done i will probably post a How to instruction. Right now i am looking for some carpet to cover the pannel. HomeDepot and Lowes doesn't seem to have the right now. I might just end up getting a black one....
Any here are some links to the pic...
Find a car stereo center and ask if they have the material that is used for the enclosures that get built. I found a source that way and it matches real well. Looks as good as stock. I paid $10 sq/yard.
Any pics of yours and did you screw it in place or did you use velcro? Also did you stable the capet to the board or glue? These are other stuff i am trying to decide how to go about. I also have plans for putting the z06 emblem by printing it on a color printer and ....
Just a suggestion here. Every manufactured partition be it professional or do it yourself has a 1/2" gap all the way across the top of the partition with some kind of filler like carpet looped over or foam rubber. I'm thinking it is for ease of installation or maybe more importantly for expansion reasons or for when the ride is under movement in that area. Just a thought.
I also built my own and found a very near match in non-OEM carpet at Pep Boys for $10.00. One roll will cover the partition. They also sell a larger roll that might cover both the partition and the compartment covers for @ $15.00. I cut my MDF board @ 1/8" shy of a tight fit, glued the body of the carpet with spray glue and stapled/tacked the peremeter edges. I then applied a 1" strip of "Fuzzy" self adhearing velcro to the top edge for both a finished look and to keep any staples from scratching the plastic surface when installing.
This is a friction fit and I have had no problems with this mod. It also cuts down a great deal of resonance from the open area with aftermarket exhaust systems installed.
I would like to attempt to make a partition myself to see how it comes out. I tried making a cardboard cutout as a template, but damn, there is no room to manuever back there to take any measurements whatsoever. I would appreciate if someone could provide the some measurements so I could at least "connect the dots" on the cardboard and try to fit that, then cut into the MDF. Any help would be appreciated.
