Just added the remote/voice activation kit for my Pioneer AVIC N1 (CD VC1). It comes with a remote which straps around the wheel and a mic which I've mounted next to the rear view mirror.
The mic is fine and doesn't block the view. The suggested position for the remote is just above the top spoke on the right. That blocks sight of the instruments and is where I naturally rest my hand. I fitted it in the small space below. It's still easy enough to operate but not sure it looks right and the straps are fairly intrusive. Not having it on the wheel defeats the object of a remote.
Wondered if anyone else has it fitted and where you installed the remote. Any other good options I'm missing?
Also, for vert owners, any experience with using the voice activation with the roof down? Is wind noise a problem?
As an aside, it doesn't recognise a Brit accent! I'll have to add that Texas drawl so that it understands me!
Any chance of us seeing some pics. Maybe seeing the remote mounted will help with recommendations. I'm following threada about the AVIC very closely. I'm seriously thinking about one of these units and I'm trying to soak up all the info that I can. Thanks in advance
I'm having my AVIC put in on Friday, and I was going to mount mine into the smalller opening of the steering wheel (if it fits). We'll see, and I'll post some pics after it's finished. How do you like your AVIC? How do you like the voice recognition system? Thanks
what happens to it if the airbag goes off in a crash?
An attorney would file a negligence claim against Pioneer for selling you a plastic skull projectile. Or maybe if it was inserted into your brain just right you could change the radio station with your thoughts.
Problem solved. The remote's in the glove box! Just didn't look right!
There were no problems with being a projectile. It was strapped to the wheel with locking bands. The airbag cover is well clear. Problem is the remote sits just where you hold the wheel. I guess I'll just reach over and hit the hard key on the unit for voice. Kind of defeats the objective though.

Still getting to grips with the voice commands. perfecting my American accent so the system understands me. Must be a recognition/learning package somewhere
Seems OK in the wind with the top down so now I just need to learn all the commands.
I've now managed to import a very nice Corvette Logo as a background.
