Default Any suggestions for radar detector plug?

I placed my Passport 8500 on the right side of the mirror, dragged the cord over the rear view mirror and plugged it inside the center console.

I did this since I don't like the bottom storage compartment door below the radio to hang open looking sloppy.

Well, my idea isn't much better, it still looks like poopie... and to make matters worse, the "mute" button on the smart cord is now stuck under the console lid.

Today, the detector started to SCREAM. I reached down to push the mute button only to realize I couldn't access it since it was under the lid. I started to open the lid and then I OPENED MY EYES only to realize I was running 60 and traffic in front of me was already at a dead stop.

I stood on the brakes and the car locked up the tires, squeeled and stopped. The water in the vase of the dozen roses that was sitting between my g/f's legs slammed on the floor drenching my carpet and floormat.

Thank God for good brakes.... which brings me back to my original question. Anyone have any good ideas on how to plug a Passport in and still keep the smart cord?

I've read somewhere that there is a plug or something that can be plugged into the rearview mirror. Anyone else hear of this, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

I don't know if it is the one I make, but I do have a cord that just plugs into the back of the wiring harness of the mirror (about 12" in length) and eliminates the dangling cord or the hardwire down to the kick panel.

You can order one using this link, if you so desire. Please email me or do a search for the words "mirror power cord" for more info.

Quick Connect Power Cord

if you use the wire above you'll loose the use of the smartcord ,only way to retain use of the smartcord is to put in a cig.power adaptor(several types avail. at Wal-Mart)above the r-view mirror which woulldnt look good,so I just made a wire like the 1 above, also hardwired the same way to my Busa(motorcycle),gonna mount my 8500 to the left of the r-view mirror.

what i would do is make an extension and plug that into your powersource and create a new plug in for your smart chord that can be hidden or velcro under your seat for reaching to. The other end of the cable can be routed up to your mounting point and stay hidden the entire time.

Before I wire into the mirror (98 c5)...oh yea, I could never get the unit to shut off with the car, when I open and close the doors, the unit re-boots. It works ok as i dont have a long cord now, just have to remember to shut it off when getting out of the car. But anyway, I wired two pigtailed cig lighter plugs to the power leads under the pass side dash, and snaked them to the side of the console (pass side) and plugged the detector and my g-meter in. still had the cord going down, but at least it was better than using the ashtray plug in.

I bought the accessory smart cord and installed it into my fuse box so it turns on and off with the ignition. Here is where I put the controller:

That is the ash tray if you cannot tell from the picture. The door still closes to hide everything.

jsdanehy, I can’t believe it. You use a radar detector? That is a device designed to help you break the speed laws we have to protect innocent people from dangerous drivers. Naughty naughty, and rather hypocritical, I may add.

You do not get it. You have some sort of personality disorder. The issue I criticized you for was perpetrating a fraud on a court. The issue was your lying which you admitted to doing. You are neither literate or very well educated. Going around and adding comments to other threads is just more evidence that you have a problem. Which is obvious to anyone who would read what you have written.

Hey Joe, at least you know I'm not nuts, right?
Just because my son Norbert is a dogfaced boy doesn't mean a thing, right?

Hey, seriously though. The personal attacks at me are not necessary. I looked at your other posts to see if you were consistent with the picture you painted of yourself in the license plate thread. When I saw that you use a radar detector, that was not consistent with all of the soapbox ramblings in the other thread. Now I’m not going to be insulting or respond in a childish fashion the way you have. Making a big deal about displaying a front plate and not being entirely truthful for the 2 seconds the judge gave my heinous offense isn’t that big of a deal. So why not lighten up and stop with the bashing.

Peace out,

StevieB

ps: Oh, and as far as the personality disorder goes. Just because I see a psychiatrist, a therapist and I’m on 5 psychotropic medications doesn’t mean a thing.

I installed my 8500, just to the left of the rear view mirror, and have no problems seeing any warnings, and no problems hearing it, even with the top off and the stereo blasting. Easy to reach and mute when necessary. I opted for the hard wire connector kit, and wired it into the wires hanging by the fuel block. Ran the wires through the windshield header, down the A-pillar molding, to the fuse block.
Just a suggestion.

Sure Joe, you can use Norbert anyplace you want, including here. If you can't copy it, PM your e-mail address to me and I'll send it that way. He loves all the attention.
