Default DVD Based Navigation System

My son just fitted a Kenwood DVD player in his Camaro and it's awesome. I think I have the bug! If I go for it, I want to fit something in the C5 with a Navigation system included. I've decided that the Garmin type are not for me as I've played with a PDA type system and it's flakey. Its the DVD display or nothing.
His Kenwood needs a head unit, a hideaway and a nav processor. Seems o lot to hide in the limited space in the Vette. I'm tending towards the Pioneer AVIC N1 despite the smalelr screen. Any experience out there?
I've been reading the threads on systems that you've all fitted and I have a few questions. Anyone fitted their own or have you had it done professionally? Any thoughts on the best harness for the BOSE speakers? (Soundgate or Metra seem to be the favorites). Seems to be a mixed opinion on whether the airflow is still good from the AC with the screen up. Its pretty hot in Vegas! Also, anyone know of any systems which can be loaded with software to navigate in Europe? I'll be taking it back to UK in a couple of years and I need it to work over there. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I have the Alpine system. The IVA-D900 headunit and the NAV (sold sep.) I've had nothing but great experience with it. I had "Al & Ed's" put it in after I had my stereo for several months. We just mounted it on top of the right side cover and made a wooden box cover for it.(The second pic)

The 7" screen makes it easy to see most things. I got this over the new touch screen Alpine and the Pioneer because of the 1.5 million pixel resolution. I had revamped the BL-OSE system so I don't know about the adpater, but I know there's on out there.
You can check with Alpine or the local dealer may know about getting a Euro DVD Map disc. ALpine is based in Europe, so why not? Hope this helps.

I have an alpine nav in another vehicle. It works great, probably the best system on the market.

I have the AVIC and its a pretty good system. The only thing i don't like is switching discs after i plan a trip so I am going to order the cd changer (only like $150).

noran01: How and where did you hook into the vehicle speed sensor?

If you want navigation, and have the looks of the C6 (in the dash with a touch screen), then you also might want to check out the Eclipse AVN 2454. I just looked at one today, and it's pretty nice, but I still think that the best bang for the buck is the AVIC N-1. Good Luck!

I have the Avic as well and I must say that it is probably one of the best out right now. The reason I say this is because you do not have to buy anything extra unlike all other brands such as Alpine, Kenwood etc etc. Navigation, DVD player, touchscreen, voice recognition, voice guidance all included in one package. Cant beat it.
Here is a picture of my setup

I own one of the premier custom stereo shops in Ca (Serenity Sound Laboratories).

The problem with the in dash is the way it flips up and covers your vents. Eclipse makes a touch screen that fits the DIN of the corvette. It looks much better.

Anyone wants one, PM me. (incidentally, you can't buy eclipse online - only through certified dealers - so it might be hard to find pics).

= )
