Default radar detectors and jammers

Can anyone out there confirm that there is no real woking detector/jammer on the market? I just read an article on radarbusters.com by a retired cop who "tests" all brands and says none work?.....Alot of suckers out there thinking they can beat the radars!!!
If you can detect the radar before its too late, then please tell what brand? CB radio seems the best way to go?????

Go to K-40's web site and read what they have to say. In particular the piece on the Laser Defuser. I've had one for better part of a year now and it does work. I'm not in the habit of speeding around town but for those times when the mind lapses it has saved me from a ticket. Its pricy though and I would probably not install the unit again.

Can you post a link to this article?...I couldn't find it. radarbusters.com is a site that sells consumer anti-radar equipment, including detectors and jammers....doesn't make much sense to publish an article stating that none of this equipment actually works. I have a V1, and can assure you that it has paid for itself many times over in saved speeding tickets. If you use this equipment correctly...it works.

thanks for your info..i will get one as i believe they work. I know it does not make much sense to have a site that is supported by an ex cop that goes to alot of trouble to make you not want one!!

Default Jammers

See my response on the photo radar thread. In short don't waste your money on any "Passive Jammer" there is no reason why they would work on anything as big as a car. Get a good detector and be careful when you speed.

Please remember that LEO's can write tickets based solely upon "visual speed estimates" also. There is no way around that.

Also, here in California an officer working radar is required to accurately visually estimate speed, verifed by radar, within a few miles per hour. The officer working the radar must first observe the vehicle, then visually estimate the speed, then point the radar to CONFIRM his visual speed estimate.

The officer cannot, legally, just point the gun and wait for a violation. The officer must observe, estimate, confirm. Of course this process takes only seconds.

So, lets say you jam the radar. The officer can still write the ticket based on his visual speed estimate. Few do this however. But the possibility is out there.

A very important distinction - active jamming laser is legal, active jamming radar is NOT. Willful interference with rf frequencies falls under FCC jurisdiction, with a maximum penalty of $250,000 AND 10 years in prison.

Use any articles promoting passive jamming as fertilizer, since its :

Everything I have read says the passive jammers are a gimmick.

Radar detectors on the other hand do work. I have had one for years. I have never received a ticket in many years of driving with one conversly, I have received several when I didn't have a detector. Furthermore, I drive faster when I have a detector than when I don't.

Detectors are not magic, and you can get still a ticket when you use one. They just greatly improves your odds.

The trick is knowing how radar works. There are several good resources out there. Basically, you just understand that if you are in an area where you are all alone and there are good hiding places for cops, beware! The pop radar can get you in just a second or two. If you are not the only car on the road, it is very hard for a cop to single you out until you get very close. In that case you will almost certainly detect radar energy when the cop shoots other cars, giving you a chance to slow down. Also, the range of your detector is more than 2X the range of the cop's radar gun because his signal has to travel twice as far.

Of course, if you drive like a crazy fool, your going to get caught eventually. I just use my detector to allow me to bend the speed limit a little.

However, as others have said, there is no protection against visual speed estimation. I suppose it's only a matter of time before that bites me.

Ciao,

Rick
