Default Another Question on lowering

I do'nt mean to but I plan to lower my Vette when I get home from picketing this afternoon. What I want to know is ,if i go to max drop w/ stock bolts and no cutting of bushings can I get by without an alignment? Since being on strike I can't align the car, and I would rather wait and do it myself, instead of paying. But since i'm off work I would like to take the time to lower the car. It's not going to be driven much, maybe 50miles a week? So do you guys think there is going to be any problems? And I assume if I don't like it lowered, I can go back to regular ride height if i want, right? Did anyone feel any difference when lowered? Any hints or tips?

Every car is different... I lowered my car when I first got it( 2500 miles...I never aligned it, I put 43,000 miles on those tires..without any issue.. they all wore even... it was more luck than anything I suspect but , becaause your on strike, and watching your dollars... you dont have to align the car.. nothing will happen.. short term.. although long term it could cause premature tire wear....I would not worry about it until
you get back to work.
Good luck

I would wait till you have the cash for an alignment - it is cheaper than two front tires.

It only takes an hour to lower on stock bolts.

After lowering, the car may drive straight, but I can assure it will be out of camber and WILL wear the inside of your front tires. Many C5's and especially Z06's suffer from premature inside tire due to the stock alignments anyway.

My alignment cost me $50 and I had it set to the low end of the Z06 range....

Just my $.02...

I would align after 200 miles or so and wouldn't chance it!

I'm off to go lower the car I let you know how it turns out. I keep track of milage and if worst comes to it I'll scrounge for $$ and get the alignment checked. I hope I be back to work by Oct.

Where did you get your alignment?? I would like to lower mine too but will not do so unless I get it aligned afterward.

Did you get the 4-wheel alignment or just the front?

Appearance is a lot to do with it as it reduces the space between the top of your tires and the fender wells. But it also lowers the car's center of gravity and provides some improved handling.

Potholes, speedbumps, angled drives all have to be watched out for.
