Dealership to fix column lock
I was advised that my column lock problem is not going to be covered under warranty.
I'm going to bring my car to the dealership to get it fixed.
Can anyone give me an idea on how much this will / should cost me.
Thanks

GM covered my column lock on my 2000 Coupe including towing at absolutely no cost to me. Your dealer should call his AVP.
The recall work was free, too. Sounds like you have a dealer trying to make a buck off of you when GM pays for that stuff.

I agree with the previous post. My CLb was covered under a recall with no charge to me. I'd go to another dealer since this one is trying to rip you.

I just did the column lock recall yesterday! It was no charge and Chevrolet sent me reimbursement papers for any previous column lock repairs!!! So yes Gm will pay for repairs

It was a recall, they have to fix it. If you purchased used vette, just call a dealer and hve then check the VIN to see if it one of the affected cars and if it has been done.

You can also check with Chevrolet at 800 222 1020. Sound like the dealer is trying to make some extra money on you. Good Luck.Save the Wave.>George

Point of clarification...having the GM recall accomplished on our vettes doesn't prevent column lock-out. Correct?
If so, then all of these posts about folks getting the recall completed, aren't fixing the entire problem. Right?
Question: then what does the GM recall resolve?
Thanks!

I believe the recall will fix the autos. On the M6 cars it just re flashes to make sure the fuel is cut when (not if) the column does lock. $49 seems a small price to pay to be done with this problem.

True enough, the recall remedied my A4. The steering column never locks now!

Just to let everyone know, I have already made a complaint to GM and I'm waiting to see what the dealership is going to do.

Your car should be covered under a recall. Mention this to your dealer and if they still insist on you paying for it, go to another dealer.

Us M6ers should make the CLB the first mod to our cars.

Are you saying that the dealer paid for your CLB (Column Lock Bypass kit)? I understand them doing the recall fix but paying for the bypass kit???

Try another dealer that works on Vettes. They should be picking up the tab on this one.

It is a recall, call GM and report the dealership for trying to rip you off

I've got my recall notice around here somewhere...
Will I have to remove my CLB if I have the dealer do the recall?
They should be capable of unplugging the darned thing right?

My dealer would have installed mine for free when I had the recall done, except I left it in my other car

I see no reason for you to have the recall done to your car. You won't be too happy if they reconnect it, I'd think!
