Default Beware Nitrous users..

New York City has fast tracked a bill which will punish users of Nitrous with jail time! Spectators who egg on drag racers could land in jail for up to 15 days as well. According to today's NY Daily News a car with nitrous is demonstrating that the car is used for racing purposes and falls into the category of a street drag racer!! "That includes having equipment in vehicles for injecting speed-boosting nitrous oxide; making an explicit invitation to race; wagering on the race's outcome; raising a vehicle vertically, and/or spinning a vehicle rapidly in a circle". If a law enforcement officer feels that a race is imminent then they can arrest the driver before a race got started. "Under the city measure, drag racing would be a misdemeanor or crime punishable by a maximum of 6 months in jail and a fine of $600 for the first offense. A second violation within 10 years of the first would be punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine. Under the bill, would be drag racers could receive the same penalties if merely caught in the acts demonstrating that a race is imminent." The bill was passed unanimously yesterday by the Public Safety Committee. The bill will become city law as soon as the mayor signs it. This usually takes about a month after being passed by council. Darn Gestapo!!

WTF!!!!

How could a cop tell if a car uses Nitrous unless they see the nitrous purge? I hope they don't start pulling over anyone whose young and has what looks like a fast car just to check if they have nitrous.
I also hope that they only go after street racers trying to race at night illegally and don't start harrassing us thinking we're "street racing" just because we're trying to pass some idiot doing 35 on the the Grand Central or Meadowbrook. Next think you know, they'll force techs to check for mods during emission inspections.

Thank god they'll finally save us from ourselves. Next thing they'll arrest us all before we can potentially kill anybody.

Intent to race by reving the engine results in jail time? That sounds insane! Next thing, they will arrest you if you look like you're thinking about something that is against the law. Glad I don't live there!

New York also has some of the most restrictive gun laws as well. The New York government feels they know better than the citizens of the state what is good for them.

This is a typical liberal attitude.

Soon you will be sitting at a light and you start dreaming of a CR5 and the Police pull you over just for thinking about it or better yet they will get you at your computer

I guess Minority report is not too far off.....

SIR Please step away from your comptuer. I realize that you were not driving or even near a car, but you were on line thinking about MODs which we have deemed to be for racers only. You MUST be up to no good. Off to Jail with ya!

I agree laws in NY are getting silly. I love the random DWI roadblocks I seem to get into every weekend. Nothing like shutting down the road and pulling everyone over. I dont feel like I need to them tell them where I was for the evening like I am 15 years old. Vent Vent Vent

floating a bill , and having it pass are two different things.. also having the funds to enforce it are something else again.. having nitrous and using nitrous are two different things.. lining up and reving is not a display of speed it may be a noise violation... lawyers would eat this up..

Yeah - all that drag racing on Park Avenue. Or how about Madison Avenue? Just think how fast a 1,000 horsepower Viper could reach top speed pulling out of the Plaza Hotel.

SOMEONE PUT A STOP TO THIS MADNESS

I'm glad I don't live there also. That is a law. I can see it if you are caught in the act, but if you don't do anything, how can they arrest you?

Here is a NY lawmaker
So technically if you are minding your own business walking down the street and a few street racers go by and your favorite cars is win and cheer for that, you could technically be arrested.

Good thing I want to get a supercharger
