Hide a key???
I have a '01 Vert and am looking for ideas on where to hide a key. Keeping a key in my wallet is a pain. I have a magnetic box that I can use or am open to other ideas. Where can a magnetic box be hidden or any other ideas?
Appreciate the help. Thanks, Gib

I have always taped a spare to the back of my license plate, it may be a little bit of a hassle to get the plate off but it is better than not getting into your car.

Have Wal Mart cut you a key witout the pellet and remove the thick plastic handle and follow suit.

I have a regular key outside in a magnetic box. It took just a little installation work but I attached a small steel plate, large enough for the magnetic key holder, in an area you can't see but can get to with your hand and I don't have to get down on the ground, just in case the weather is bad. I have outside keys on all my vehicles and with the electric locks being so easy to accidently hit, (been there, done that) it gives me peace of mind.

I would maybe get some Industrial Strength Velcro and find a decent place to stick it ... I mean the Hide-A-Key box silly! Make sure you check it once in a while, just remind yourself you have it and that it's still there!

If you decide to stick a hide-1-key under your car, make sure you put it some place that it isnt going to be knocked off because of the low clearance of your car
or you could just use the passive feature

Here's a tip, go to your dealer and get a Cavalier key (about $2), it is a match for a Vette key (without the security pellet). Get this key cut to your Vette key and hide that one outside your car, if anyone finds it they still can't start the car (of course you'll have to hide a regular key inside the car too). The Cavalier is also easier to hide and if it's lost, you're not out $40.

The gills have a flexible flap inside. Behind that flap is a steel cross bar for fender support. A magnetic box could sit there and never be seen or found. Plus, the area below is enclosed so if it falls off it won't be lost on the street. 9 hex screws will remove the access panel in the case it does fall off.

I'm confused.
Why would you need to hide a spare key for your vette or any car for that matter? Can you be that forgetful that it happens enough that you need to result to such a measure?

No, I take the emerg key from my wallet and open the door. I then open the hood using the release under the dash. Then I retrieve the key from it's hidden location in the engine compartment. I then take the key I just retrieved from it's hidden location and insert it in the ignition. Simple, isn't it? You can also hide the key in the cargo area or in the front cockpit area if you don't want to open the hood.
