Default C5 FAQs?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a C5 next spring/summer and I have alot of questions

I did lots of research on the forum (and other vette forums). Some threads did answer a few of them but i'm looking for a FAQ (frequently asked questions) so I don't have to ask 1928190281928591 newbie questions.

Thanks,

Alex

That's a good idea for the Forum. But, then you would never have the joy of posting questions, regardless of how dumb, and seeing the response you get from so many great folks helping out. While FAQ might help newbees, the sense of community here is what it's really all about. Good luck hunting.

I've read on here of folks being "spanked" by the panel as it opens.

Welcome. You have come to the right place to get loads of information on the best car. Best of luck with your search. Hang in there and get what you want in the car. I had fun searching, but last week I had the most fun driving my own "new" Corvette home.

Welcome to the forum with the greatest people on the Earth! If you dont ask "1928190281928591 newbie questions" how are we supposed to learn anything? Hope you have fun here! and don't forget to wave!

Here's a list of some things you may get some kicks out of:

1. Some 2000-2001 C5 had an oil consumption problem due to bad rings.
This had something to do with light tension oil control rings and when way the person drove his car. High RPM and light load combinations. This caused ring flutter and excessive oil usage.
2. Rear end output shaft seal leaks.
3. Clutch slippage. If the car was run hard it will need to be replaced!
4. Steering wheel column lock problems. Column lock bypass kit will fix the problem around $45-50. Bucks if it is not already installed.
5. Battery acid leak problems from original AC Delco battery. Destroys wiring harness, PCM and vacuum lines under the battery. Costly!!!
6. Wet carpets due to AC air box drains plugging up.
7. Windshield cowl drains clogging up causing wiper motor to fail! Easy fix if you catch it prior to destroying the wiper motor!!!
8. Drivers seat tracks wear causing the seat to rock when you accelerate or brake.
9. Emergency flasher switch failure. Expensive part! Very expensive labor to replace it!!
10. Right and left door control electronic module failures.
11. Head light motor (stripped plastic driven gear) "just like the C4"). Same fix, replace with brass!
12. Tire pressure sensor module failures.
13. Head light motor control module failures.
14. Driver seat leather wear on the seat back outboard bolsters.
15. There are ways that you can check to see what service and or repairs have been done to most cars.
16. Ask for help ... no matter what ...chances are it's already happened to someone else!

This was the first thing they showed me at Les Stanford. Apparently, some people had had some issues.

if you look at that list, it's a wonder that any of us even fool with these pieces of junk. Although I've heard of most of those probelms and delt with several of them myself, that's the largest list of "common C5 problems" i've seen

and we are talking about msrp of 57,850(04 convertible) that comes with all the above. on top of that, we have the mighty mighty GM service ethics and quality that stands out from the rest of auto makers.

imo, everyone MUST hang out here for at least three months before making the purchase decision.

one last thing, i would've still bought a corvette even if i knew all the above already because i'm stupid obssessed corvette nut.

why wait? just go buy one now and let the friends here fix all the little problems for ya!

Post away. Doing a search may help some, but at times you just have to ask. That is what many people are here for - to share the knowledge gained by either experience or asking the same questions.
