Having discovered that an Optima would cost me the thick end of $300 over here I bit the bullet and asked the stealership if they had an AC Delco AGM battery for my 2000 MN6. I don't want a potentially leaky standard battery.
Tech forum gave the part number of the AGM battery as 78P-7YR, but the stealership is trying to get me to buy a 78-7MF. I have googled this battery designation and can only find it on yahoo japan. As neither I nor my PC speak Japanese I haven't been able work out the specifications, other than it is 770CCA which is good.
I think that with no 'P' in the part number they are trying to fob me off with a standard lead acid battery.
Does anyone know if this is an absorbant glass mat battery or should I sell some underused body parts to buy a red top?

Thanks everyone.
HOLY CR@P $300 for what? The Optima Gold Plated Anniversary Editon with a 100 years of service? I think you sould check out CostCo ($99 for red tops) or try your local high end stereo shop. Some carry them as well. I wouldn't opt for a Delco again!
Well MyVetteDream, if only it was a wondrous thing such as you describe.
But no, this is the European price for a bog standard red top. I can't mail order one because the couriers regard batteries as explosive devices (good job we don't have anything that nasty in our cars - oh my word we do!)
Looks like GM won't supply me with and AGM battery.
'Fraid I shall be off to Toulouse next week with my Euro235 for a new red top.

You know ... as I was replying, I thought maybe it was something like Foreign costs ... sorry to hear about that. Can I Fed Ex you one?
Get a friend to ship you one of these.
Odyssey battery model PC1200LMJT. It is a dry-cell battery. (Ferrari uses them so you might find one in europe pretty easily) They retail for $157 but can be found for 120 to 130 bucks. Weighs about 35 pounds and is about the same size as the ac/delco (one inch shorter in length) They can sit for 2 years without discharging, too, if that is an issue for you. Shipping is not a problem. This model has the + terminal on the left which is what you want.
I would say this is the finest battery around, but it would set off another battery war. I've had the motorcycle version on my bike for years. its perfect. it is the next car battery i will buy when i need one.
Any questions, let me know.

Sorry I don't read French. Did you check any of the U.K. sites? There is a ton listed in Yahoo U.K. search under spiralcell. U.K. might be much more competetive.

Richin Chicago - sorry, didn't mean to be rude! Thanks for tip on searching under spiralcell, I'll do that later.
Verysoon - I've emailed a couple of US suppliers to find out the cost of shipping on an Odyssey, but I have a query. The pictures show them with top terminals, but I've got 2000 MN6 with a side terminal battery. Will the PC1200MJC fit? Sorry to be so ignorant about all this. I'm going to do some searches for Odyssey in the UK and France as well to see what turns up . .
