My thinking goes back to my muscle car days and changing oil on a new engine.
After putting the first 600 miles on my new '04 Z06, I changed the oil and filter. It's been said that it is not neccessary with today's engines and synthetic oil but, it's cheap insurance and I was also able to change the drain plug to the magnetic tip one!
What are your thoughts??
I still don't buy it. The piston rings have not "set" in the cylinders and that allows minor amounts of fuel to leak by the piston rings into the oil. Also, no matter what the dealer will tell you, there is trace amounts of metal that will mix with the oil during break in. For $40.00, changing out the break in oil is cheap insurance for a long lasting motor.

I did the exact same thing on mine, drain plug and all.

Hi l2vette -
I guess for me it didn't matter what anyone said, or what the DIC told me. I just couldn't wait to crawl my butt under there and fondle the thing!
As great as they look outside, and inside, they also look great underneath, where all the real goodies are.
I apologize to all those who said that they though I was wasting oil changing it as often as I do, but I have yet to have them take me up on my offer of providing my perfectly good drained-oil for thier use...
When I picked mine up, I was fortunate enough to meet Dave Hill. I asked him about the oil change. I was worried because it was a very long route home (about 2,500 miles). He thought about it for a moment, then answered "no problem." I trust his judgement.
Even so, I change the oil every three to four months (sometimes that's as much as 600 miles. however, it is usually 150 to 250 miles between oil changes). If I were uber-rich, they would call it eccentric. However, I'm not, so they call me a few fries short of a happy meal.
I agree...underneath the Z is a bueatiful sight!! When I change the oil, cleaning and admiring the engineering that went into the design of the car is a good way to spend time!!
