I only have 24k on my '02, but my previous car was a '99 Trans Am (with the detuned LS1) and I traded it in with 74k on it, no problems at all.
To give you an idea of how rock-solid those engines are...one time I drove home from work in the '99 T/A through a tropical depression, and drove through a street that was flooded, over 1 foot deep (I know, dumb thing to do). Anyway, the car stalled from water ingestion and I had to push it home. After a little while, I was able to start the car again. I would choke if I gave it throttle, so I just let it idle to dry the engine out. The next morning I did the same thing, and by mid-day the engine was fine! Many people who got stranded had to have their cars serviced for them to run again. The LS1 took it like a champ!
Thank you all for your input. I no longer have an issue with the mileage on the 99 I'm looking at. I think I'm going to pull the trigger and get it! WOOOOOOO!!!!!
Recently bought a 99 C5 w/ 48k. A few squeaks here and there. Very well taken care of. Hauls butt like a cat with it's *** on fire.
No leaks, everthing works (loaded with every option), six speed, good clutch still! DO recommend extended warranty though...no matter how skilled you are, everything look pretty complicated, especially with all the electronics.
Just went over 65K with my '03 Convertible last week! No problems, and I've had a blast modding it when able. Sure, it's got a few road scratches, but nothing major.

The LS1 in the 98-02 f-bodies was not detuned at all. It was rated lower in hp by GM (305-310hp), but in reality if you look at the dyno numbers, the f-body LS1s put down the same or even more power than C5 LS1s.
