I have a coupe and like it. Like you said, it can be an open air car when I want it to and has tons of storage space. But, nothing wrong with an FRC and if I could get a Z06, I would do it in a heartbeat. As little as I take the roof off my coupe, I probably would only miss being able to see out the roof panel. I like the lines of both the coupe and FRC. Both are fine cars.
I live Hawaii and take my top off atleaste once a week.....
I think the FRC looks better from the profile )more agressive) IMHO..
But when you take the top off the coupe I think it looks better than the FRC or Z06 for that matter IMHO......
When I drivearound with the top on or pass other FRC/Z06 vettes....I think ww Im in a nice car.......Wow those are nice two.....
But wen I have the top off.......
Well do you remember watching movies when you were a kid or before you got your vette of the rich guy who pulls up in a open LAMBO or FERRARI or what ever expensive open car and evryone pays ttention t him........
Well thats how I feel........I fee like an millionair with the top off....
people notice te car 10 times more with the top off.......
It dosent have some dumb bar going cross the top like camaros do...
It's totaly open and CLEAN looking.....
And hen I pass a FRC/Z06 with the top off.....I think to my self...Man I got the better ride......
it's so nice having the option of the open top......
It's like can go in my normal mode to go to the store and pick up some milk.....
Or I can go in ( PIMP MODE) where the tops of andI roll throuh the local Mc donlds drive through and see the young ladies working there drool over my car.......
They even ask if I bought a new car ...........
Your friends who dont know it can do tha wll be so surprised when you roll up with the top off...
Maybe cas Im in Hawai I can take more advantage of it then some of you in the colder parts.....
But theres nonthing like seeing the island with thetop off......Me an my wife just take a trip around the island sometimes to get that oen car feeling.
I PERSONALY COULDNT IMAGINE NOT HAVING TH OPTIOPN.....EVEN THOUGH I LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE FRC SLIGHTLY MORE WHENTHE TOPS ON THE COUPE.

The C5 was designed as a convertible and was made to be extremely rigid with the hydroformed rail structure and all. The engineers wanted the vert to be as stiff and as rigid as any fixed roof car could be. They also used far fewer parts in the frame construction compared to the C4. It's as rattle free a Vette as has ever been.
When I had a C4 coupe you could barely stuff a golf bag angle wise without having some of the clubs up front with you......with the C5 coupe, the trunk area is now square instead of Vshaped and I can now handle 3 golf bags sideways with ease. Bottom line cargo space is huge on the c5 coup....my buddy has a new Z vert; trunk space is comical, one small brief case..
I believe its more of a personal preference, but you do need to think of the options that you are after as well. Personally, I believe the FRC looks a bit more aggressive, but I have seen plenty of mean coupes.
Good luck!
I agree the FRC looks a little more aggresive, especially black.
That's why I bought mine, a 99 mn6 black on black. Personal preference bottom line.
Your'e ride is sweeet
There is a reason they got rid of the FRC. It wasn't selling.
Err, how about GM realized it was the "superior" platform to build the "fastest / pure sports model" on, a.k.a. Z06!
If folks "really didn't like the styling, or lack of removable roof, or fewer pounds, or higher rigidity", they would have "truly" discontinued it and upgraded the coupe instead!
Can anyone comment on trunk space in the FRC? How does it compare to the coupe?
It's less for the FRC. First off, GM introduced the FRC as a stripped down version for those who wanted to mod the car to race. Porsche did the same thing in the 70s with the 911 Sport. They then introduced the Z06 which had more HP, non-run-flats, it is lighter, etc, but it still didn't have all the comfort options a coupe had.
Part of the reason for the FRC/Z06 is frame rigidity, and part is liability. GM didn't want it said they were encouraging people to race cars with removable tops. (It hasn't stopped us, yet, though.)
They're all still Corvettes and meet a number of different personal choices. While I prefer the Coupe, I can't say one thing bad about FRCs, verts or Z06s. They're all fantastic vehicles.
I agree with most everything said here. I have a coupe with Manual trans...the FRC only comes with Manual trans but the coupe alslo comes with Manual as an option if you don't want an auto.
i like the lines of the FRC myself. some colored coupes look good though. the trunk makes the car seem smaller and lower- just my uneducated observation
but the hardtops do have a big blind spot
I think the FRC looks a little sleeker, lke the Z06. Plus, if you put stuff in the cargo, it doesn't get blasted by the sun.
My 01 coupe came with a cargo cover, which is a black fabric that stretches across the back of the hatch. It makes a heluva difference in the interior temperature, and shields your cargo from the direct sun.
The only drawback of the coupe is when you ride with the roof off, windows down, you get a LOT of wind noise inside the cockpit, and you'd BETTER tie down EVERYTHING!!! If you ride with the roof off and the windows up, you get the wind baffling inside the cockpit, and it feels like your eardrums are going to pop from the pressure. The options are limited to reduce/eliminate the noise. One is a big ugly visor that goes on the top of the windshield. The other, which I have, is the ventilation latches that clip into the rear deck of the hatch. They raise the deck about 1.5 inches, which looks kinda bad(almost like a Firebird rear deck spoiler) but the improvement in the cockpit wind and noise is probably 75%. See my sig for pics. I love my coupe, but don't hate FRC's.
I got the FRC because it was the performance model for 99 & 2000. It is 12% stiffer than the coupe an mine comes out about 90 lbs lighter than the coupe> Dont get the impression that FRCs are stripped, they are not in any way!!! Mine has CD, Bose speakers and amps, active handling,Air and all the power accessories seats etc. What a lot of people didnt like was the fact the FRC was available only with the MN6 and Z51 suspension and was intended for the enthusiast who may race the car. AS we FRC owners know, FRC means Factory Race Car. Both coupes and FRCs are great cars you have a tough choice to make
