Need your help - Electrical problem
Earlier today I noticed that when I put my brake on with the key out of the ignition and with the door opened that the door chime would sound. Then later in the evening when I turned on the alarm using the FOB that the alarm would start going off. When I got back to the hotel I put the brake on I then noticed that the foglight, dash lights, light on the radio would come on and again when I used the FOB to turn on the alarm, the alarm would go off. I can lock the car using the button on the door so that is okay.
I know that I probably have a short somewhere in the system. The only thing that I have done to the electrical is cut the white wire for the Euro taillights.
Has anyone on else experienced this sort of problem and if so what was the fix.
Sounds like your car took a dip in the ocean. Can't imagine what could cause all those unusual responses. Time to look in the manual. Be back to you later.
Sounds like a loose ground. There is a Snap On diagnostic equipment that will pinpoint exactly where the problem is, whether it is a short or a loose ground. It's pretty amazing: it generates a picture of the car with the entire wire harness and prints out the pinpoint location of the problem. You might want to have it checked. It saved me a lot of time and grief once.
if you haven't already done so, please check your error codes...it may give you some clue as to where the problem lies so you can troubleshoot. There are other threads which tell you how to do this and what each error code means. IMHO

From what I've read, a dying or low charge battery can cause all sorts of problems in the C5. When I converted mine to UK spec, cutting the white wire had no adverse effect but with all the door opening, the battery went low and then I had Service Active Handling, Service raction Control and a dead door control pad. Charging the battery restored everything to normal.
For future reference, what is that Snap-On diagnostic tool?
Maybe check the passengers footwell for water. And grounds under the battery. And the battery itself. If none of those I think it's dealer time. You might try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and reconnect and check. My .02

Well here is the deal for today.
When I started the car this morning, I applied the brakes and the dashlight came on. Then after drive to work and I put the brakes on once the engine was turned off, the light didn't come on and was able to turn the alarm on without the alarm going off. I hate these types of problems. Once I get back to Vancouver it will be going to the dealer, good thing I got the extended warranty

Yes I did tape up the cut wire but the tape could of fell off. I will check that once I am back in Vancouver with some tools

Checked the computer code and there are no new codes in the system

Last night I was wondering if my battery was losing it's charge

No water that I know of and that was last week when I installed my seat covers but will check again.

From your statement above, I would also think it' coming from a weak battery. The reason if was fine after driving a bit, is that it had a little time to recharge. Replace your battery with the OPTIMA Red TOP and your problems should be solved.

Good Luck
When it first started to happen last night I drove from the hotel to a mall and thats when it first started to happen, Then when I drove back to the hotel from the mall it was still happening. The drive to the office is a quarter of the distance to the mall.
I will definitely get the battery check once I am back in Vancouver

My stock battery went bad, and as it started to go I noticed some funky electrical stuff, like the window switch not working. I suggest you take your battery and have it checked someplace.
Tracing all you mystery lights ...all go back to the BCM data link. Could be 1. bad BCM, low battery, leaking battery on BCM or salt water from the Pacific ocean. Sure you didn't drive along the beach. Salt on the road (not in your Vet) Well anyway, sounds like a trip to the shop. Good Luck Rich any ssalt water in BC?
