I currently own a 96 LT1 Corvette and when the C6's arrived I just had to go see one at my local dealer--big mistake. My intention was to only go see them, well, took the Wife. She did not like the headlights and many other things about the C6. Next to it was a used Z06, she saw it and loved it and said "why don't you just get this?". Yeah, I come in just to look and she wants me to buy. Long and short of it, a couple of weeks later GM announced the 0% 72 financing. Called my local dealer and worked a dealer transfer on a new 04 Millineum yellow Z06. Thousands off and 0% I could not resist. So, dealer had to trade one of his vehicles to get this Z06. It is being trucked from out of state and I should take delivery on Monday.
I have not driven a C5, let alone a Z06 and just hope I will like it. Being a performance enthusiast (currently with an LT1 and a Ford Lightning), I am sure this will be a dream car. Been reading posts now for about a week and hope to become a contributor to this forum.
Sorry for a long first post, but just wanted to share the excitement.
Welcome and congrats from a relatively new Z06 owner as well. Got my new '04 Black Z this past June (Dealer said he couldnt get any new MY Z's in this area which would have been my 1st choice) .. You will not regret it 1 bit, its an all around awesome car !
I came from a 93 LT1 Vette back in July. If you think the LT1 is a performance machine, wait till you drive your new Z! I took two friends who have 96's for a test drive. We got back and both felt like their 96's were just a pile of bolts. Enjoy!!
If you haven't driven a Z06 you're in for a surprise. Congrats on the Z.
What year is your Lightning? I have an 03 Z and an 03 Lightning.
Love them both.
never drove a z06...you should have...you made a big mistake!!
j/k .....you will love it. i have had so many cars that i can't even remember half of them. i would definatley rank the z at or near the top. and i have had and do have some seriously nice cars.
Thanks for the well wishes. To answer your questions:
black interior.
2000 Lightning, JDM chip, drive shaft loop, 90 mm MAF, 4lb pulley. Best et 13.1 on stock F1's (no traction), have since installed Nitto 555's (love them), have not been to track since Nittos but would anticipate 12.8-12.9. Living in Phoenix at about 1500 feet and 50-60 temp is the best we get to run in, so we are typically slower than other locations.
I also went from a 96 LT1 to a Z06 (2003). The difference is like night and day. While I still like the C4 body style, the C5 Z06 interior, handling and power is a major step up. I have no desire to drive a C4 anymore after buying my Z06.
Be careful for a while, put some break in miles on it. From about 3,000 RPM's to 6,500 these Z's scream. The rev limiter gets hit pretty quick if you don't watch it. You made a great choice, the Z has that certain edge to it in sound, road feel, and performance. Have fun !!
