So my cousin is looking at either a buying a new 2005 GTO or getting a 1998-2002 Corvette. He either wants to keep his current car which is excellent shape and buying a Vette which he will have 2 cars or trading in his car and buying a GTO and just having one car. I think in the long run he would be better off with a Corvette than a GTO. Any thoughts guys??
The Holden Manero ( GTO ) is not a well built car. May have the LS1 engine. There was a thread not too long ago about some one who bought one and they wish that didn't.
The corvette is much more fun and faster. But if you really want to get a GTO - this one is race ready and for sale, $110,000 as is. No spare parts.
yes that is oil on the ground. It blew a head gasket at the Grand-AM race at VIR.
We have been over this topic a few times and each time it seems to come down to preference. The GTO is a decent option if you need 4 seats but still want a little get up and run. The vette is a totally different driving machine. If I had a reliable runner that had a back seat and a trunk I would definitely keep it and get the vette. no question. But ofcourse this is a corvette forum. The Pontiac forum might have some different opinions.
They are coming out with a new body style here in a year or so, I would hold off, it will look more like a GTO than a grand prix. Also a version with the 400hp LS6 engine is in the works for next year I believe!!!!!!
I would go with the vette. Although, I have to say that I saw a black GTO at a recent C6 preview that was done to the max. Awesome wheels and exhaust and it sported an upgraded body kit that look just plain mean. The motor had been massaged big-time. That car had a lope that exceeded most of the vettes there and there were a lot of high hp cars there that day. The GTO sounded absolutely badazz. Now, that is one dd I could easily live with. Plus, the interior looked very nice, especially the dash lighting at night.
Either buy a vette or a GTO but, do not even classify them in the same catagory-what kind of camparison is that anyway-keep the car and buy a vette-GTO's make me

Nice interior but ugly on the outside (GTO). They are selling like crap and I would not touch one with a ten foot pole. If they do change the hood and go vented(fresh air intake), I would possibly consider the GTO then.

The '05 GTO is supposed to have the LS2 engine in it. Should make a difference in the car. But, not sure about the body panels being changed. Still, the GTO is a nice car with a back seat. If I had the choice though, the Vette would be the choice.
