LGM Pro Long Tubes Installed

I don't know what happened to my old Vette, but the one in my garage now is wicked, nasty, evil and naughty
The exhaust note during exeleration is thunderous. Comparable to a Harley. Seriously. No emissions issues in Michigan so I told LGM to keep the cats. The GHL's are the perfect compliment to the awsome muscle sound these headers are producing. I plan on measuring success by the number of car alarms I set off.I used the lift at a local motor shop, $12/hr including any tools I'd need. He has an unskilled assistant, Keith, who works for whatever anyone wants to pay him. For about 5 hours of motivated help I paid him $60 and he though I'd hung the moon.
Got off to a late and slow start as Keith wasn't there for the first couple hours but made it to the point of putting fuel rail covers back on by 530pm when we had a set back. A flange bolt broke off in the header flange for the air hose on the passenger side

It could have happened to anyone, but it happened to Keith. He felt so bad I felt bad FOR HIM. Poor guy thought I'd be mad at him.
2nd morning, no Keith. Dropped the starter, pulled the valve cover, coil packs, dip stick and header. The owner of the shop was able to get the stud out of the threads but took the threads with it. Not a problem, he just retapped it and handed me two new bolts of a #8 hardness. Problem solved.
Fired that beast up at 5 pm and ........ WOW
My Dad video taped my first launch. I watched it last night 500 times.
These headers probably aren't for everyone. This is the loudest Vette I personally have ever seen (or heard?). (That includes your's Cobra4B
)Quick Question: I did throw a code today but that was expected. I'm having a full dyno tune/PCM calibration done at the end of the month. Should I still run down the the dealer and have them read the code? I have no idea how to read them off the DIC.
Thanx for listening and wish me luck with the LEO's

Michael

Good for you, I love mine too and as you said it was like a whole new car. You can get that rear passenger side aft pipe up a little higher to make it match the driver side by loosening the flange and clamp bolts and then use your floor jack with a little piece of wood to push/turn it a little more upwards. So wheres that video????
Here are a few links on DIC code review and clearing:

Here's what I found and it's what I expected:
_________________________
10-PCM P1133 H C
"Heated oxygen sensor (HO2) Insufficient switching - bank 1 - sensor 1
_________________________
But here's a little more detail: The check engine light came on just before I got home this afternoon. No DIC code showing, checked all gauges, all systems nominal. Started and shut it off a few times. Still getting check engine.
I double checked the one spot were a bundle of wires was fairly close to the header and it's fine.
Is it possible there's a problem that didn't show on the DIC or is it the P1133 H C code doing it? I know the "H" means in the past but corrected, but the "C" means current.
If that's all it is I'll just run with it until the dyno-tune at the end of the month.
Any thoughts?
Thanx again for all the help

Michael

Be prepared to be amazed.
Nice going!!!! There is great satisfaction in installing your own headers. It is an intermediate to difficult installation, numerous steps, and the sense of accomplishment you get after doing it is tremendous. Installing headers on a C5 Vette is no walk in the park.
Great job. You saved a bundle doing it yourself and you learned a lot about how your car works and your own mechanical skills along the way as well.

But I won't pull any punches and say that I was completely confident going in. It was nerve wracking from the onset
. LS1HowTo.com deserves props on this one. I saved the entire link, screen by screen, to a word doc so I could refer to the photos and long version as I went and I made my own condensed, printed version for actual use under the hood. The laptop sat on a bench 8' away:
Being the dork that I am (if not too careful), I logged 15 hours on the lift thanx to the bolt-break-setback. That equals $180 at $12/hr, but I paid my new friend and engine building shop owner $240 for his accommodating nature, willingless to answer questions, and the fact that he held the exhaust tips up so I could get the spring-loaded center brackets installed.
The only thing more gratifying than the new singing voice of my car is the fact that I've got, I've counted, 27 knicks and cuts on my still grease stained hands.

The curve ball with the broken bolt was NOT funny at the time. But I learned even more through it.
So it's all good

Michael

And good job doing the install yourself!!
However, I don't think I want to be your neighbor!!
ur too loud now!! Sindey waking Speedy up???

Congratulations... keep those mods coming!!

But the knicks and cuts are my rite of passage
