Default Help me with PIAA lights.

I recently bought the PIAA 1100X lights. I installed them and they are not working. this is the way I have them wired. ANy suggestions from those who installed them before?? I had stock fog lights and use the instructions from corvettedreams.com

Here's how I have them set up.

The white thick wire with the fuse in it should go to the positive terminal, not the thick black wire. The thick black wire is the ground wire. Right there would keep your lights from working. I'm not sure if your drawing is off or if that is how you did it.

i always thought black= (+) and white = (-)

I'll reverse them and see if they work. Thanks for the help.
BTW where did you ground your lights??? Is the bolt that supports the radiator shroud to the frame a good grounding point?

Black is the ground and you can ground to the frame at the factory ground point. Look straight down next to the shroud you will see a factory grounding point on the frame rail. Use the facory ground. Sorry i don't have a picture but you will see the bolt i'm talking about.

Here's a pic .. it's the bolt in the middle of the pic. Also, check your #6 fuse (or foglts) ... I blew mine and spent 7 days trying to figure out what wiring was wrong. Last option, call Tuan Le at Liitewarehouse. He is an awesome guy to help. Hope this helps.

TTT, it didn't work

I put the white wire under the positive terminal in the fuse box, and i grounded the black wire to the bolt under the check valve like in myvettedream's picture. I checked fuse number 6 and it's not blown, the fuse in the white wire going to the + is not blown either.

any other suggestions?

the fuse may not be blown but you might have caused some damage when you put 12 volts to the negative!

I'll get one of those low voltage testers tomorrow and see where the power is going and where it's not. I hope I didn't mess up the lights...

yeah i turned on my parking light and i tried turning on my headlights too. i also used the fob to unlock the car (i have the approach lights on) so they should come on as well. I'll play around with a tester tomorrow and see where's the current flowing.

One other thing you can check, did you tap into the right purple wire? I mistakenly tapped the wrong purple wire on my buddies car and the lights would not work.

As I recall there were 2 or 3 purple wires you could choose from. We had to nearly remove the top of the fuse panel in order to trace the correct purple wire from the correct fuse. Plus there wasn't that much slack in mine. I used one of those electrical crimpers to joing the two wires.

Good luck as the PIAA's are fantastic.

Man, that stinks. I hope you get it figured out. Nothing is worse than things not working and not knowing why. Especially a Fun Toy that you're looking forward to like the PIAA's

Tuan said Mine will ship Monday (possible Fed Ex Holiday) or Tuesday and I am also in Texas so they will come quick.

I still wish someone whould POST better instructions. I want to see A PICTURE of THAT PURPLE WIRE, and what to use to crimp it with and a picture of the wires under the hood and what is connected where.

There is some of this in the Corvette Dreams, but it isn't to the detal and with the amount of Pics that I would like.

Good Luck and kep us updated.

I have the PIAA kit installed on my car and since I already had the factory fogs, I took a slightly different route with wiring them up. NOTE: These instructions are only applicable to those cars with factory fogs!

As mentioned previously, the thick white wire is the main power supply for your PIAA lights. Connect it to the positive terminal that feeds the under-hood fuse box.

The thick black wire is the main ground for your lights. Again, as mentioned previously, connect this to the grounding point on the frame aft of the radiator shroud on the passenger side.

This leaves you with a thin white wire and a thin black wire (assuming you cut off the PIAA switch). These comprise the control circuit for the relay. The thin black wire is the ground for the relay. Crimp (or solder) a terminal on the end of it and connect it to the same grounding point used previosly.

Now, all that's left is the white relay control wire. Here's were I differentiated from the "regular" instructions. Using a crochet hook, I fed the wire through the same plastic sleeve that contains the PIAA wiring for the passenger driving lamp. This keeps things nice and tidy. On the end of the control wire, I crimped on a narrow blade terminal, the same size terminals as you can see in the stock fog lamp assembly. I installed both of the lamps as directed, and then took that remaining white relay control wire and plugged it into the stock fog lamp harness on the passenger side. The only thing to do here is make sure you "plug" into the terminal fed by the purple wire. This is your power that gets energized when you turn the fog lamp switch on. The other terminal is black and is just a ground; plugging into this side of the plug will result in nothing.

Secure all your wiring with zip-ties and you're done!

I find this method to result in a much cleaner install and allows you to easily remove the whole setup and revert back to stock at anytime. All you do is unplug everything! This is far easier than gaining access to the bottom of the fuse panel, removing a clip-tap, and then repairing the now damaged insulation on the wiring.

I hope I've cleared things up a bit. If necessary, I can try and snap a few digital pics if you think it will help at all. Let me know.

Good luck!

Yeah I tapped into the right purple wire. THere was a grey and purple wire going to the the connector for the old fog light. they were wrapped in electrical tape. I removed the electrical tape and tapped into the purple wire only. It was a real pain because the wires were so short. I had to force my hand into the cooling duct, and hold the connector and wires with one hand. then i had to come with my other hand from above and use pliers to crimp the connector. I'll take some pics for you 2001RCB.

I wonder if I have the right wire tapped into the purple wire. It's a White wire with brown stripes going directly from the harness.

I didn't ground the skinny black wire with brown stripes that comes from the relay> I used the instructions from http://www.corvettedreams.com/piaa-i.pdf and they didn't say anything about grounding it.
