My apologies in advance if this tip has been posted before. I run a search and was unable to find it.
This tip might unlock the steering column of your disabled corvette and avoid the costly tow to the dealer. You will be able to unlock you steering column once or twice but you mileage might vary. I tried it once, unlocked the steering column, drove the car to Cartek (Dave at Cartek gave me the tip) and had a steering column lock bypass installed.
The above worked on my second try, with the key from the OFF position to the ABC position. The trick is to apply moderate pressure on the locking mechanism by turning the wheel to the right while simultaneously turning the key from OFF to ABC, waiting a second and then from ABC to ON. Before doing this, I’ve spent an hour turning the key on from OFF to ON and “banging” the wheel left and right in frustration.
I believe that once the steering column is unlocked it will stay that way until you remove the key. In my case, I started the car and drove to Cartek without turning the engine off.
Once again, I apologize if this has been posted before. Good luck.
