Default Poser or not???

All my life, I've never been one to be a "poser". If ya can't put your knee down on a curve, don't put pucks on your suit. If ya don't have an "SS", don't make it look like one... which is the main reason why I never bought one of those C4 to C5 bodykits (not to mention they look like crap anyway). If I want a C5, then I need to go buy one.

My question is, I really like the rear brake duct work on the Z06's. Since my C5 is a convertible and they don't make Z06 verts, would it be posing if I put those on there?

I ask because I bought a set of Z06 screens for the front intake. That was soley for function, not looks. Ever since I installed the Vararam, it seems my car has become a leaf blower that sucks leave all over the place.

The rear duct work screens though they are function would be put on for looks.

Suggestions? (other than buying a Z06... for those smart azz's...)

Thanks,

Mark

If you like it do it; I think the line would be drawn if you put the badges though....

I bought mine with the rear brake vents already on it. The person before me used the car for autocross, so I don't look at them as a poser mod. It is a functional mod, and no other Corvette owner is going to believe that you have a convertible Z06.

If you like, do it. Don't worry what others think.

Installing Z06 specific parts on a non Z is fine as long as it stops with the badges. Hell I have some non Z06 parts on my Z - does that make me a poser?

GM for years has been raiding the parts bin to cobble together cars. I installed the front and rear Z06 brake cooling screens/ducts on my 99. Ther are functional and increase the performance of your car.

I say do whatever turns you on minus the badges of course.

Cheers

I've never been accused of being a poser because I don't have badges and I refer to my car as an FRC even though it started life as a convertible.

I've got functional Z06 rear air ducts on my coupe to cool the rear brakes on the tracks in Florida. I've also got a lot invested in my suspension, tires and brakes to make my car handle better on a track. Does that make me a "poser".

I think the fake, stick-on outside duct screens or badges might qualify as that. But I sure see a lot of people getting Z06 wheels for verts, coupes or non-Z06 FRCs. Does that make them "posers", too? If someone installs a HUD in a FRC that didn't come with that does it make them a "coupe poser"?

It's your car. Do what you want.

I think that those rear brake ducts look cool and after all they do serve a purpose! Go for it!

Well I'm putting the Z06 badges on my vert because I've heard that they add an extra 40-50 HP. Does that make me a poser?

I think the brake vents are functionaal, and not a poser mod to a coupe. Poser would be putting ZO6 badging on a non-ZO6 or the "stick on" vents that are just for looks.

If you make them functional. All others fall under the poser category, jmo

I don't think so....I have quite a few Z parts on my car, ie..wheels, brake ducts, sway bars, shocks, front screens AND seats....It was killing me about being a poser until I got the Z06 cut out of the seats. I think I have the only set of these, do what you want but leave off the emblems.

I'd personally check out this rocker kit. It'll make it function and I think looks better than the Z06 brake ducts IMHO.

That kit is okay but at 850???? Helllll no. That's ridiculous and doesn't even look as nice as the factory.

In my humble, and I know, unpopular, opinion, the Z06 rear brake ducts, while functional, are primarily there to distinguish the Z06 from the FRC.

The rear brakes, generally, don't need that extra air, they only provide ~20% of the brakes' stopping force. It doesn't hurt, but doesn't help much either. Look at the front brakes of cars at the track, literally glowing hot, not the rears, though.

IMHO, the Z06 brake ducts were created more for style than function. To get better front brake cooling, an inner duct that snakes through and channels cool air right to the front brakes would have been better, but you can't see these easily, and the typical person can't appreciate them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all that is Z06 should remain on a Z06, I'm just saying that the Z06 rear brake ducts are a distinct styling cue on the Z06, and useful more to identify a car as a Z06, than something that's really beneficial.

Generally, Z06 parts, suspension parts, engine parts, wheels, etc. offer real benefits and improved performance that can be measured, but IMHO, the Z06 rear brake ducts don't.

My Brake scoops are certainly not Z06 scoops, no zo6 wannabe here..
that seems to be the biggest complaint about putting them on a coupe or vert... The Z06 scoops are plastic and take alot of abuse from stones etc.. My scoops are fiberglass, which are much harder and are molded in and look like they belong , not like they are added on... atleast thats what everyone tells me, and they dont get beat up by stones because they are not stuck on top of the rocker .If you click on MY Corvette photos under my avatar you can see 30 pictures of them from different angles.. PM me if you need any details.

You original question is valid, it was part of my consideration before doing this mod.
