I want to pull a motor cycle trailer. Has anyone put a hitch on a C5. Does it require cutting or drilling and how does it fit between the exhaust pipes.
OK guys I was less than honest. I pull a small utility trailer when I go Boy Scout Camping in the Vette. I had a hitch on my C4 and that was great one day when some *** hole decided in a merge to pull within an inch of my bumper. The hitch sticks out 3". Yep when I stopped he hit the hitch and it went right through his front plastic bumper. I was so pissed that I turned hard to the right and made sure that the ball (fish hook style) hooked good. I then gave it enough power to simply rip his front bumper off. He then had the audacity to claim I caused him to hit me. So I sued him and won but didn't take any money because I had no damages what so ever I was just getting even with the *** hole who was trying to get money from me. SOooooooo It is also good to stop those park and bump folks from scratching the bumper. Oh well. I hope you all enjoy this story. On the C4 I had to drill the aluminum subframe. If I have to do that with the C5 I'm not going to do it. It has to be a 100% bolt on.
Be well all.

I personally would not pull something with the Vette, but there are hitches made that will work on the car. There was a vendor at Bloomington this year that was promoting a small pull behind trailer that looked like the back end of a C5 and they had some hitches for it. IM me and I think I could find the name of the vendor - the stuff is at home.
In answer to question about using a trailer hitch on a C5 or any VETTE. I have a custom made trailer I have used with a C4 and a C5. The trailer is about 8' x 5-1/2' x 3' High. It has a rubbermaid box 43" x 20" x 17" and another alumimun box 40" x 46" x17" high. I don't even feel this trailer behind the car, (except to backup). Not easy. I use this trailer to haul oxygen, a wheelchair and all our clothes when we go on trips. We just returned from her 50th class reunion in WI. We live in the Houston area a total of 2767 miles in 9 days. Have also been on the 50th Anniversary caravan in 2003. The December 2003 issue of VETTE magazine page 20-22 has a good writeup and part numbers for the trailer hitch. Easy to install and you only have to drill 4 small holes in the frame. I need all this extra room as my wife has to have oxygen 24 hours a day. I installed an oxygen concentrator and inverter to allow use in the car. otherwise we could go nowhere in a VETTE. If anyone needs pictures contact me at gskingery@earthlink.net. PS:We drive a 2003 anniversary coupe.
This is a good question, I have been working on customizing my VROD for show. I am using same colors as my Vette and when finished, was thinking of having a custom trailer built to pull the bike to shows. The bike weighs about 800lbs and I am guessing the trailer will tip in about 250-350lbs. Am I flirting with disaster?
lots of people use trailers behind the C5's for track tires and the like when going to track events and i havent heard anything about any problems. sure its not really reccomended, but guys, as americans look around and see how much americans weigh nowadays and u put two good sized guys in a vette and u already exceed the gross weight specified by GM. anyway, several companies do offer the hitch for the C5 but some exhausts (slp's for one) arent supposed to work with it so u just have to see what will fit. i'd say if it wasnt a heavy trailer and tongue weight wasnt much it shoudl be ok, i just wouldnt haul a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer with it haha
I don't see what the problem would be with a light trailer. There is no way it is going to be hard on the drivetrain or brakes. The only stress I could see it putting on the car is the suspension, and a 1000 lb trailer should only have a 100 lb tounge weight anyways.
Now, if you were to use it to haul a car, that should raise a red flag.
I have a hitch sitting on my garage. Havent installed it cause I dont need it but the C5 should do fine hauling a light load such as a small utility trailer or motorcycle. Just dont wind up like the guy with the yellow z06 who backed his car down a boat ramp loading jetskis and the entire car wound up in the water.

Yes, I think so.
I've read a lot about trailering with a vette and I don't think it's completely out of the picture, but I think you're way, way, WAY over the weight limit that I'd pull.
I've seen data (can't remember where) that says it's okay to pull about 700-800 lbs, but even your bike would strain the limits not even talking about the trailer itself.
Buy a pickup truck, put the bike in the back of the truck and tow the Corvette on a trailer to where you want to go.
1. What kind of hitch is it and where can I buy it?
2. Please remember there are those of us using dialups and that size picture REALLY slams the door on us!

I have a small Reese hitch and a Harbor Freight trailor to tow my tires to the races. The hitch is removable with simple hand tools in about 20 minutes if you want.
If you PM me (remind me!), I'll look up the model number of the hitch and snap some pics when I re-install it next weekend for an autocross.
The hitch only stays on to/from events. I remove it for normal driving- it's THAT easy.
