I like to add a fuel system cleaning additive every oil change, which I do every 3,500 mi. especially because of the fuel gauge issue and carbon buildup issue with the C5.
Do you think adding BG44K every oil change is too much?
Should I just add Chevron Techron every oil change and maybe just add BG44K every 6mos to a year?
BG44K from Rynoproducts is $19.99 and Chevron Techron is $5.99
Chevron would be alot lighter on the wallet but do you think it performs as well as BG44K?
Opinions appreciated. Thanks
With my old '99, any time I had a gas gauge issue a bottle of Techron cured it. Every time. Whether it kept the gauge sender as clean as BG44K or not, I'm not sure, but for the time I had the car, it was the fix for me. I don't have any idea if it did anything at all for carbon buildup.

I really like BG44K...best stuff I've ever used...
BG44K is gooood stuff....well worth the $...and every 3500 miles is not too much...doesn't hurt anything....only helps...
Fuel Power is another to consider. I hadn't heard of it until the analyst who reviews my oil analysis (Terry Dyson) recommended it and I trust his judgement in matters like this.
I use Redline S-1..buy it by the case direct....I bottle every 4-5 tanks...so far so good. Case price is about .50 a bottle cheaper than retail....not a big savings but alot of places don't carry it ...besides that way I have it on hand and re-order when I use my last bottle

Have used Redline for 4 years as an occasional system cleaner.
I may be wrong...but the owner's manual advises against using any fuel additives...of course, it could be that the dealer needs to make money cleaning out your fuel injectors.

I'm using Fuel Power in my Corvette now. I put in 1oz of the stuff for every 5 gallons of gas. A one gallon jug of Fuel Power is about $25 or $30 I believe, so it will last a very long time and is definitely more cost effective than buying the over the counter cleaners. And this stuff is absolutely safe to run in every tankful in these small doses, and it will keep your fuel system clean, plus keep your combustion chamber carbon free also. It also has the effect of raising the octane by one point, and many people find it gives them an extra MPG or two. I haven't had my car long enough to have consistent MPG data to say for sure if it's giving me more MPG, but I am getting 21 MPG in my daily commute which includes some very heavy traffic. That's 2-3 MPG better than I used to get with my LT1 Firebird.
According to ChevronTexaco, if you use Chevron gasoline exclusively, there is no need to use the Techron additive. The bottle of Techron is exactly the same stuff that goes into their gasoline.
I have to give Chevron credit for not leading me on AND telling me to use Techron and their gasoline. By the way, their gasoline won't cause you any fuel sending unit or gas gauage problems...something about the low sulpher and Techron in the gasoline. I tyou can't get Chevron gasoline, Texaco (which is owned by Chevron) gasoline is the same formulation of Chevron gasoline...either one will work.
