I asked a VERY reputable cat back exhaust manufacturer which gaskets they suggested for a cat back system. They replied:
"forget the gaskets! Go to your local parts store and buy a tube of Ultra Copper (it’s cheap). It’s a Permetex silicone type product made exclusively for exhaust. Use it on header flanges, the flanges you are working with—ANY exhaust flange. Follow the instructions and it will easily seal a 1/8” gap and it will stay sealed forever. When it’s time to break that seal (remove the headers etc) the stuff scrapes off easily, apply another bead of Ultra Copper and you are back in business. If you use it once you will never again use an exhaust gasket."
Now, I have used the stuff before in 'poor fit' application, but always thought of it as a shortcut. I've never had it leak, but?
Sitting in a box in my garage! Saturday is RaceDeck flooring and exhaust install day! You should come down and visit. Cold ice tea in the garage fridge!
We now have three sets of Bullets in our group, I kept on hearing those Bullets over my Stingers and felt insignificant...
i will see what's going on w/Sam and my brother and get back to you.
Thanks, for the offer!! I would try to stay w/gaskets. They are not going to fall off, like your special gasket goo could. IMO.
