I wouldn't pay to advertise someone elses product.
The funny thing is I'm thinking about returning them becasue I actually do want to show them off (or advertise them) but when you think about it, you never see them until the door is open.
They look really good, and if that's etched chrome, I'd say the price isn't that unreasonable.
Design Specialties sold their etched chrome filler cap covers for the engine compartment for $75 ea...so yeah, it was $450 to get them all. Outrageous, yes, but once you have them and compare to the $15ea crap sold elsewhere, it makes it all worthwhile.
Design Specialties was the company that made these for LPE (If I'm not mistaken) and yes, these are also etched in chrome. Design Specialties went belly up but I hear they are coming back.
Sorry, you're not paying to advertise for Corvette, so much as paying to drive the Corvette...
It's nice to show of the LPE name as they've worked hard to get the reputation that they have today...and b/c someone knows you have a well thought package capable of nice hp levels in most instances...their packages cost enough, you might as well have bragging rights...
the passenger side does come with the one shown right?
if so then it's not too bad... don't think of it as $180... consider it $90 a piece instead. Or tell yourself, "i've thrown away good money on worse things." Does that help?
IMO, you've put $$$ putting in the LPE TT and a few other things like the wheels. it's a clean design, subtle (at least you didn't splash huge LPE stickers all over your car, and does add to the LPE theme.
you already have em on, so if you can afford em and not harp at the cost, then keep em.

Yes, a pair for $180. Well technically they arent installed. I just placed one sill ther to see what they look like. They definitley look nice. But I'm **** when it comes to "Do I really need this?" On the other hand:
$29K for stage II LPE TT
$350 For LPE TWIN TURBO Fuel rail covers
$3900 for HRE's
$2250 for Vette essential Seats and sport seat conversion
$1800 for track CCW's
$1200 for SW C5R light assemblies
Hmmm, nope. No way I'm paying $180 for these - what a rip off
Decisions Decisions.

well... personally i would think that for the $$$ you dropped, ya think they'd throw in those little bits for free... but i know that's not the way it works.
come on... if ya spent $350 on the rail covers and have accepted that, the sills are a bargain!
Take the family out to Houstons or some other restaurant... good food and good drinks and the sills wont even be an afterthought.
You already have the forged Lingenfelter Stage II+ Twin Turbo with LPE Forged Bottom. Why not keep them, they look very good. Your already in to LPE for what $35,000? Come on now, whats $179.00? Buy the way, I love your car.
