Default Hood seal help

All right group,

I got suckered by the "High performance hood seal" that most of the catalog houses sell a couple of years ago. The adhesive has come loose in the middle where the nose comes to a "V". Can anyone recommend a double face tape or other safe adhesive that I could use to re-stick it in place? I really don't want to spend another $15 to replace it....yeah, call me cheap. I do like the look and it does seem to help the engine compartment stay cleaner. Any advice and maybe some thoughts on where I could by it.

Thanks
Paul

Using a recommendation here on the forum, I bought 3M's super adhesive weatherstrip glue and it worked perfectly. Comes in a tube, just be careful, the stuff is very, very sticky. Go to 3M's site if you want to buy it directly from them.

Go to Lowe's Home Improvement. In the tape section they will have different double sided tapes. There should be some double sided tape made by 3M for indoor/outdoor use. It is clear with a red backing - looks red in the package and the package shows house address numbers on it. This stuff is thin and sticks really well to CLEAN surfaces. Mirror tape will work, but it is kinda thick and spongy.

WOW, that's brave....that won't hurt the paint under the seal? I have some superglue at home, I was too afraid to use it.

Did some more research and this is the product code and name of the 3M adhesive:

3M™ Super Weatherstrip Adhesive 08001

It comes in 5 oz or 2 oz. That'll keep the weatherstrip there permanently, yet it won't damage the paint underneath if you ever choose to remove it.

Same thing happened to mine. I just took the dern thing off, along with the crappy door sill seals, and threw them away.

I did the same thing and it came loose again too.
I think it was because I was in a hurry to get to a show and didn't clean both surfaces properly.
The 3M double sided tape is some good stuff, just need to clean area thoroughly before applying it.
I'm going to have to look for the 3M Glue mentioned above, sounds like it would be handy to have around also.

Well, I can now tell you the stuff is great. The 3m Weatherstrip adhesive part number 08001 as mentioned above. I found it at my local NAPA autoparts. They had it in stock. I got a huge tube of the stuff for 6 bucks (5 ozs.) It sets up in minutes and is pretty easy to work with in small quantities.

Thanks for all the replies. I just couldn't see spending another $15.00 on a piece of rubber gasket. Alas, the Corvette tax that we hear so much about. Thanks for the detailed reply Alex. Thanks Corvetteforum!

Paul

I agree, the 3M adhesive would work just fine.
