My white coupe got a ding on the top edge of the tail. It is a just a little rough and the paint is obviously damaged but is localized to an area of about 1/2 inch vertically and about 3 inches wide. A body shop guy (who is very, very good) has told me they can wet sand and spot paint the area and blend it in easily to the rest of the paint without repainting the entire tail. He says that it being on the edge will keep it from standing out like something in the middle of a panel. My factory paint is otherwise perfect and I hate to repaint the entire tail boot. Anyone had a spot repair like this?
P.S. I know there were some workers near my parking lot and I believe one of them either dropped something on it or hit it with a shovel handle to see what it was made of.
I've never had it done. But I'd say you've got nothing to loose. I sounds like it would be better than trying the touch up route yourself. Go for it. If it doesn't work, it sounds like you were prepared to do the whole panel anyway.
An experienced painter can blend this in where even you will have a hard time finding it. You might check your painter's references and, if they look good, go for it. Good luck!
