looked at a 2000 vette today with 5k original miles. car looked spotless in and out with a couple minor stone chips. my concern is when I opened the engine hood I noticed the under side was a duller color than the outside (mag red out side of hood a duller red on the inside ) but also noticed on the underside along the the last outer inch of the hood was a shiney mag red color? I also noticed the same type of paint change from shiney to gradully duller on both the driver and passenger doors when I opened them below the door latch assembly ? is this normal or could this car have been in a serious accident ? car fax is clean . really like the car but concerned. car is in fla. I'm in ny
All I can tell you is that my black 03 z06 that I purchased new with 2 miles on it has a small 1" part right at the middle front lip/edge of the hood which is not completely painted. It looks like the sprayer never quite got there. Also, under the edge of the hardtop (right before the doors), the rear quarters, both sides, same thing. I noticed it immediately at the dealer but did not want them to try and fix it. Thus, if/when I ever sell it, somebody will probably think it is the result of something else.. FWIW.
I have Speedway White but also noted that the paint on the doors inside isn't what you should expect. And the same thing under the hood. so I would think what your seeing is normal.
I had a 2000 Mag Red coupe that I bought new and took Museum Delivery on - the underside of the hood was exactly as you describe it. It was not clear coated...
I have a Torch Red 00 Vert too with 5K original miles on it. Sounds like my car but no color differences anywhere on mine. I'd run if it were me, panels have been swapped!!
being at a body shop all the time you pick up on a few things
this being one in paticular- all brands of cars have 2 colors- both named the same color one is the outside color the other is usually underhood or trim color by trim i mean the color you paint the inside of a fender underhood or etc in which they dont use a clear coat and have a different formula but have the same name with a underhood behind the color its done like this so the bodyshops will be able to easily find the underhood shade that goes with the appropriate exterior color
the car in question should be fine and probably wasnt in a major accident if any at all
