Before I installed my Rocker Rails, I used the Jacking Pucks any time I jacked the car up.
It will give you a better contact surface for your floor jack.
I cut 4 pieces of hard maple to fit the jacking spots in the frame and used those uintil I made some jacking pucks out of used hockey pucks. The maple pieces were about one inch thick.
I bought a set of low profile pucks, that actually clip in the holes and stay there. They are for a BMW I can't remember which model. Work great and you can't see them unless you jack the car up, or lay close to the ground.

To answer your question, whether you use a jack or a lift, you need to hit the lift points directly. If you plan on spending a lot of time under the car, the $60 or so from Eckler's for the C5 lift pucks is probably worth the money. It's a PITA to use other things and getting them lined up
OK, question on the BMW pucks??? Is it true that if a C5 needs to be towed (God forbid), that the area that these permanent pucks go into is the area that the tow people need to attach their metal hooks to pull the vehicle with?
Where did you find the jack? I'm having trouble finding a floor jack with the clearance to get under the car. Thanks in advance.
my car is lowered and even with a puck in place I can get the jack in there..
This jack is from Harbor freight.. it is a light weight 37 pounds.. low profile.. ( 3 1/2 inches) aluminum racing jack... it cost 129 dollars.. they have one for 89 dollars but there have been some liability issue with the cheaper jack.. I was told to stay away from that 89 dollar jack by a friend who works for Harbor freight.
also PepBoys sells the same jack for around the same money.. Ive seen it on sale there for 119 at times.. the Pepboys jack is just like the one I have..
I bolted a single hockey puck in the four holes permenant. You can see them if you know they are there. I feel better having them bolted on in case some decides to jack the car when I'm not around. Total cost $5.22 and 30 minutes.

Costco also has the same jack for around $125.00. Sears sells a Craftsman version for $200.00 that looks to be the same thing. Nice jack but a tad heavy.
